Chris Eubank Jr is plotting world domination next year - and pound-for-pound king Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is at the top of his hit list.

The British middleweight is currently preparing for next month's fight with Liam Williams in Cardiff.

Eubank Jr, 32, hopes a victory will open the gates to a world title shot in 2022, having called out IBF champion Gennady Golovkin on numerous occasions.

He told talkSPORT: "That is the plan. There's some big fights out there to be made. Not that this isn't a big fight. This is a big fight domestically.

"But we're talking about world level, for a world title, and this fight will set me up nicely for those opponents.

"In 2022, there will be a world title around my waist, for sure."

And Eubank Jr insists his team will continue to push for a fight with Canelo, despite his move up to cruiserweight.

The Mexican, who recently conquered his fourth weight class by unifying the super-middleweight division, is expected to fight cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu next year.

But Eubank Jr believes fans would prefer to see Canelo fight him, presumably at middleweight or super-middleweight.

"I don't know who he's fighting at cruiserweight," 'Next Gen' said. "I don't know how competent the guy is.

"But if he's not world class or at a high level, even if he's got a world title, then yeah, it can be done [by Canelo].

"But it's not a fight that people will be interested to watch. I've read the guy's name online and I've never heard of him.

"It's not a big fight. It's not a fight that the fans are going to really get behind. It's just because it's at cruiserweight.

"Really, he needs to be fighting the names. He needs to be fighting the guys who the fans want to see.

"The fans have been wanting to see me fight him for years now. So we'll be pushing for that after I take out Williams."

In the meantime, Eubank Jr's focus is set on Williams ahead of their grudge match next month.

And 'Next Gen' insists it will be personal when the pair step into the ring following a string of online insults.

He added: "I'm excited. This is a fight I've been talking about for a long time and the fans have been asking for it.

"It's personal. Usually these fights are not personal for me. I go into fights very neutral. This is not a neutral fight, he's talked a lot.

"He's going to have to pay for what he said."

He added: "If it's a hostile crowd, if it's a pro-Williams crowd, it's not going to affect me.

"If anything, it will make me fight better. You've got to block it out.

"It doesn't matter if the crowd's behind you or against you. That's exactly what I'm going to do."
