‘True warrior’ Anthony Yarde gets revenge over Lyndon Arthur with fourth round knockout as Frank Warren confirms 2022 world title fight beckons

Anthony Yarde got revenge over Lyndon Arthur as he knocked out his British light-heavyweight rival in the fourth round of their fight on Saturday.
Yarde had a close split decision loss to Arthur in December last year, but came back at the Copper Box Arena in London to avenge the result.
The 30-year-old stopped Alex Theran in the first round back in August as he bounced back quickly following the loss and put in an impressive performance on Saturday.
Yarde made the more impressive start in rounds one and two and stopped his Manchester opponent in round four, when Arthur was hurt by a body shot before being pinned on the ropes and eventually going down onto the canvas.
He will now likely fight for the WBO light-heavyweight title in 2022 and face the winner of Joe Smith Jr vs Callum Johnson, which takes place on January 15 in New York.
Promoter Frank Warren told talkSPORT: “That’s where he’ll be now, he’ll get the winner. It was a tremendous win."
He continued: “With Anthony, what you see is what you get. He’s a true warrior and he did have a lot of problems, I know a lot of people had problems during Covid, but he lost two members of his family in quick succession and a few other problems.
“It’s the mark of the man to do what he did tonight against a real quality fighter. A guy ranked number one in the world and went in there and did a job on him.”
Yarde told talkSPORT: “I’m happy right now. It’s been a long year and was a long year before that, but we’re here.
“I genuinely don’t think people knew what I went through. I believe when you are given opportunities, most times you need to be there to take it.
“Where I’m from and where I grew up you don’t get many opportunities. I know a lot of people who didn’t make it to their 18th birthday.
“When I get the opportunity to go in the ring and entertain, it doesn’t matter what I’ve been through.”
