Floyd Mayweather criticised reporters for their recent praise of Canelo Alvarez following his protégé Gervonta Davis' win on Sunday night.

The highly rated lightweight was tested as he beat Isaac Cruz despite an injury to his hugely powerful left hand.

At the post-fight press conference there were questions of 'Tank's' performance as he did not deliver a knockout as usual. Some observers have even claimed they felt he lost the bout.

Mayweather responded: "They don't wanna see 'Tank' win because they feel like they're beating me, because I dominated the fight game for so long.

"But these same writers out here, they'll praise Canelo...

"Oh, 'He can pick and choose who he wants to fight.'

"I'm gonna tell you the truth about Canelo - motherf***er [was] easy.

"A cake walk, easy.

"Y'all sitting up here, y'all praising this dude, this dude was nothing.

"I was almost 40 years old when I cooked this dude, easy."

Later in the presser, a reporter asked Gervonta: "Would you compare this fight to when Floyd fought Carlos Hernandez?

"I know it was a fight you convincingly won, but he gave you a difficult time."

Gervonta responded: "You think he gave me a difficult time, honestly?"

To which the reporter said: "Yes."

At this point, Mayweather interjected and said: "But 'Tank' you have to realise that most times we have to teach these so-called boxing specialists and boxing journalists about boxing.

"They really don't know.

"It's like what Roger Mayweather said - 'They don't know s*** about boxing.'

"So we have to teach them about boxing."
