Mitchell edges Adams in BDO world title thriller

Scott Mitchell clinched his first BDO World title with a thrilling 7-6 win over Martin Adams at Lakeside.

Both players entertained the crowd throughout but it was Mitchell, on his first appearance in the final of the sport’s grandest stage, who triumphed.

Adams showed why he is a three-time World champion with a sensational 91 checkout against the throw in the fifth leg of the 12th set, to send the gripping encounter into a decider.

But a sublime 158 checkout from Mitchell, his first ton-out of the match, swung the match back into the 44-year-old’s favour, before firing an arrow into double-top for victory.
