Inter Miami v Dallas

updates

FT
And breathe! The full-time whistle blows at Chase Stadium and Dallas have completed an incredible comeback to seal a 4-3 win over Inter Miami. What a game that was and what a fightback from Dallas to hand Miami their first MLS defeat of the season. The visitors got off to a dream start with Moore putting them ahead just eight minutes in, but they quickly lost their lead when Picault brought Miami level in the 16th minute. Obando doubled the advantage just before the half-hour mark, putting the hosts ahead going into the break. Martinez extended their lead just before the hour mark, and Dallas looked gone for all money, but Eric Quill’s side mounted an incredible comeback in the final 30 minutes. Urhoghide scored his first MLS goal of the season at the perfect time to get Dallas back in the game, while the addition of Pedrinho gave the visitors a much-needed impetus. The Brazilian set up Julio for the leveller in the 69th minute, after Acosta had come close to playing Julio through twice before. Pedrinho made no mistake from inside the box shortly after, sealing Dallas' comeback with a lovely first-time shot. The visitors then had to dig deep and hold on as Miami fought hard to equalise, with Allende coming agonisingly close from a free-kick, effectively from the final kick of the game. The hosts will rue not making more of their chances, producing 1.71 xG, while Dallas will be thrilled, having overperformed their 2.27 xG. It’s heartbreak in the end for Miami, whose 19-match unbeaten streak comes to an end, keeping them at fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, while Dallas move up to sixth in the Western Conference. That’s all from us tonight, thank you for joining this live commentary. We hope you’ve enjoyed it!

FULL-TIME: INTER MIAMI 3-4 FC DALLAS
97'
Paes sends the ball long from the goal-kick and the referee blows the whistle. Dallas have done it!!
96'
ALLENDE HITS THE TOP NETTING!!! OH, HOW CLOSE IS THIS?? It's heartbreaking for Miami and Allende, who hits this free-kick perfectly over the wall but there's just shade too much of power on it and it doesn't dip in time, instead zipping over the crossbar and onto the top netting. That is surely Miami's last chance!
95'
Picault tries to find Segovia in the box as Miami mount a late attack, but Dallas manage to poke it clear. It goes only as far as Allende, who combines with Aviles to win a free-kick about 25 yards out. Miami have a golden chance now, perhaps their last of the match, to protect their unbeaten run!
94'
The hosts look completely knackered, but they are still pushing hard to hold onto their unbeaten run! Fray bombs up the pitch but can't get his cross off, and Dallas manage to regain possession.
92'
Acosta, who has played a starring role in Dallas' comeback, finally gets a breather as he is replaced by Ntsabeleng for the final few minutes.
90'
There will be six minutes of stoppage time. Dallas have to hold on a little longer, while Miami are pushing hard for an equaliser. Allende and Picault send shots in quick succession towards Paes, but their efforts are well of target and the Dallas goalkeeper is happy to watch the ball roll wide.
88'
Farrington has been tireless, particularly in the second half, and the striker gets a well deserved rest now, with Scott taking his place for the final few minutes.
87'
IBEAGHA COMES GOOD WITH A CRUCIAL CLEARANCE!! Allende finds Cremaschi inside the box and the American looks to wind up for a shot, but Ibeagha dives in and makes a vital last-gasp clearance to send the ball out. How vital will that come to be if Dallas manage to hold on??
84'
Dallas are on the verge of delivering Miami their first loss of the MLS season, breaking their run of 19 regular-season games unbeaten. The Texans just have to hold on for about six minutes plus stoppage time to seal one of the season's most incredible comebacks!
83'
Acosta picks up a booking for dissent after having one too many words with the referee.
81'
Quill praised Farrington's "honesty and tenacity" before the game and the striker repaid his coach's faith as he holds off Aviles to send a low pass across the face of goal just seconds before the ball rolls over the byline, and Pedrinho made no mistake from inside the box!
81'
GOAL!
Pedrinho
GOOOAAAALLLL!! DALLAS HAVE COMPLETED A STUNNING COMEBACK!! Wow, Mascherano is livid. Chase Stadium is stunned and not for the first time tonight. Dallas work the ball well down the left hand side of the box and despite heavy pressure from Aviles, Farrington doesn't give up and manages to cut the ball back at the last second, finding Pedrinhho in plenty of space inside the box. The Brazilian adds to his assist with a lovely first-time finish to seal the comeback! 4-3 to Dallas now!

80'
WHAT A CHANCE!! Acosta has been at the heart of everything good about Dallas in this second half and he creates another stunning chance to set up Julio with a teasing through-ball in behind the defence. The striker is just a step too slow and Callender comes off his line to cut the pass out, but that was very, very close for the visitors.
78'
Martinez clips a good cross into the box for Allende to attack, but Ibeagha gets a heavy push on him to cut it out. The Miami fans appeal for a penalty yet again, but referee Lukasz Szpala is not interested.
75'
Allende replaced Obando for the hosts as well.
75'
Bright's race is ran as he is replaced by Segovia for the final 15 minutes. You suspect that Mascherano would have wanted to rest Segovia or take Bright off earlier, keeping Miami's second leg against Vancouver in mind, but the Argentine's hand has now been forced.
73'
The fans at Chase Stadium are still in shock, but Miami don't look ready to roll over anytime soon. Picault is played through neatly by Cremaschi, but the forward can't reach the ball in time and Paes comes off his line to collect. That was a good idea from Cremaschi, though he just marginally overhit the pass.
71'
What a response this has been from Dallas late in the second half. It's anyone's game now, but the visitors have come back admirably from 3-1 down to level the scoring at 3-3. Dallas have scored also scored three goals in a game for the first time since early March, where they managed a similarly tight 3-3 draw against Colorado Rapids.
69'
Julio's finish was brilliant, but how about this pass from Pedrinho? The Brazilian dropped deep to help progress the ball up the field and did just that with a perfectly-weighted through-ball into space for Julio to chase.
69'
GOAL!
A. Julio
GOOOAAALLL!!! JULIO HAS STUNNED CHASE STADIUM!! Dallas have produced a stunning comeback and it's the Ecuadorian who has brought them level. Pedrinho played a lovely lofted through ball over the top for Julio to chase, and the forward did well to get on the right side of Lujan before side-footing a calm finish into the back of the net! 3-3 with everything to play for now!
team badge
68'
Ramiro finds himself in some space down the right wing and he looks to float a cross towards the back post for Farrington, but the delivery is underhit and Callender pockets it easily in the end. The execution wasn't there perhaps, but that's a good idea from Ramiro to get Dallas' forwards involved in the game more.
65'
Noah Allen enters the fray as well, in place of Falcon.
65'
Mascherano makes his first change of the night now, with Redondo coming on in place of Afonso.
64'
GOAL!
O. Urhoghide
GOOOAAALLLL!!! Hang on, says Dallas, we are still in the game! Urhoghide has pulled one back for the visitors and the contest is far from over! Dallas win a free-kick on the wing and as expected, it's Acosta who walks over to take. His inswinging delivery lands with Urhoghide, whose header is blocked. The ball falls right back to the centre-back though, and he makes no mistake at the second time of asking, firing a low shot on target that takes a deflection and loops into the far corner. 3-2 now!
team badge
62'
Moore fires two shots on target in quick succession! Dallas are ramping up the pressure now and it's the goalscorer Moore who decides to test Callender twice from close range, but the Miami goalkeeper holds firm to make a neat double save.
58'
Quill opts for a reshuffle in defence as well, with Abubakar replacing Norris for the remaining 30 minutes or so.
58'
Show's evening comes to an end as Quill makes his first change of the night, with Pedrinho taking his place in midfield.
56'
Cremaschi might not have seen Martinez coming, but he did well to move out of his teammate's way as soon as he did, with the full-back firing a low shot in off the post following Cremaschi's touch to set it up.
56'
GOAL!
D. Martínez
GOOOOAAALLL!!! But it doesn't matter now because Martinez has added a third for Miami!! Just as the fans were screaming for a penalty, Miami have gone ahead and extended their lead. Bright and Afonso play a lovely set of bounce passes between them, with the former's long pass finding Cremaschi, who holds off the challenge before Martinez picks the ball up off him and tucks the ball into the net off the inside of the post! 3-1 to Miami now!
team badge
54'
BIG CHALLENGE FROM URHOGHIDE! Is that a penalty?? Picault is unleashed down the right wing and the forward uses his pace to good effect to wander into open space. Urhoghide gives chase and lunges in with a very strong tackle inside the box, but it doesn't look like he gets any of the ball. He takes Picault out completely, but the referee adjudges no penalty! VAR has taken a look and confirmed the referee's on-field decision. That is a very big call and the Miami fans are livid!
52'
The hosts win a corner and Ibeagha manages to reach Cremaschi's cross in time to clear the danger. Aside from the sloppy tracking on Obando's goal, Dallas have looked quite strong defensively tonight, reaching many of Miami's corners and crosses first to clear the danger.
50'
Picault wins the hosts a free-kick and Afonso takes it quickly, looking to find Obando in the box, but Dallas' defence clears the danger fairly comfortably this time around.
48'
Miami have started the second half brightly and the hosts look poised to maintain their unbeaten streak in MLS play, with them being the only side in the league to have not yet tasted defeat. It will undoubtedly be a huge confidence booster for Mascherano's side if they manage to cut the gap at the top of the Eastern Conference standings tonight, without needing the services of their four former Barcelona stalwarts.
46'
And we're underway for the second half!
HT
Having taken a first half lead, the Opta live win probability backs Miami to hold onto their lead and take all three points, with a win at 83.%. A draw is given a slim chance of 12.7%, while a Dallas comeback seems highly unlikely at just 3.8%. Mascherano will hope his side can convert more of their chances to extend their lead comfortably in the second half and wrap up the contest with as little fuss as possible, while Quill will know that there’s more in it for his side than they have shown so far. It will not come easy against this rigid Miami defence, but Quill will want his midfielders to provide more service to Farrington and Julio in the second half as Dallas try to claw their way back into the match.
HT
The half-time whistle blows on an eventful first half here in Florida as Inter Miami lead FC Dallas 2-1 at the break. Dallas got off to the perfect start, with Moore firing a good shot past Callender in the eighth minute to take an unlikely lead. Miami, who have made eight changes to their starting XI ahead of the second leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup semi-final second leg against Vancouver, took some time but eventually grew into the game. Picault levelled the scores in the 16th minute, scrappily tucking in off the rebound from a Paes save. Obando then duly doubled Miami’s lead just shy of the half-hour mark, latching onto Fray’s curled cross to catch Urhoghide unaware. Dallas have seen their fair share of possession, but are yet to make it truly count, producing a paltry xG of 0.45 across the first half, while Miami have managed 1.35 xG.
47'
HALF-TIME: INTER MIAMI 2-1 FC DALLAS
45'
Kaick gets into a tussle with Bright as the two contest a loose ball, and Kaick comes out on top this time, winning the throw-in. He puts the ball back into play quickly, with Show looking to take on a volleyed shot from distance, but it never quite lands for him. The ball finally finds its way back to Callender once again, who sends it long for Picault to chase.
43'
Acosta's pass to Julio is poor and Bright is quick to intercept. He tries to play Obando through quickly, but Dallas win the ball back. There's been a bit of back-and-forth from Dallas and Miami as we inch closer to the break.
40'
Acosta's cross towards the centre of the box is bumped high up and it loops over the crossbar for a goal-kick. With half-time approaching, Callender takes his time before sending the ball up the field.
39'
Show plays a neat through-ball down the line for Farrington, though Falcon is there to make the tackle. Farrington goes down and the referee awards Dallas a free-kick in a decent position. What can Acosta make of this opportunity?
36'
WHAT A CHANCE!! Afonso really should have done better here! Again, Obando drops deep to create space in the final third, and the ball is played delicately through for Afonso. It looks offside initially, though the flag stays down. Afonso, however, takes too much time and delays his shot, allowing Urhoghide to track back and make a vital tackle! What a chance that was for Miami!
34'
Obando drops deep and drags the Dallas centre-backs with him, leaving space in behind for Picault to exploit. The veteran forward skips past Ibeagha with ease, but sees his cross blocked early, allowing Miami a chance to deliver from the corner flag.
32'
Dallas have seen a fair bit of the ball, though they are now seriously up against it. Moore's goal was their last shot of the game, with Miami having attempted each of the last six shots in total. Quill's side started so brightly, and they need to find a way to get themselves back in the game now.
29'
Obando's finish was excellent, but the delivery from Fray was superb in its own right. The young full-back saw the space in the box and curled an excellent, bouncing cross towards Dallas' defensive line. Urhoghide was unaware of the danger, allowing Obando to sneak in front and finish emphatically.
29'
GOAL!
A. Obando
GOOOOAAAALLLL!! OBANDO FIRES MIAMI INTO THE LEAD!! It's such a simple cross-and-finish move, and the striker makes no mistake from close-range. The ball is played out to Fray, who once again whips in an excellent cross towards the six-yard box. Obando times his run perfectly to catch Urhoghide unaware, and slides the ball into the net with his first touch. 2-1 to Miami!

With their 1-0 win over Columbus Crew last time out, Inter Miami equalled the longest regular-season unbeaten streak in MLS history at 19 games, tying the Crew’s run in 2004-05 and FC Dallas’ run in 2010. Miami have won 13 of their 19 games in this run, while the Crew won nine times in theirs and Dallas 10 times. Can Miami hold on to set the new record themselves?
24'
It's been fairly even in terms of possession, though Miami look slightly more assured with the ball at their feet. Bright and Picault have been very effective at dropping deep and wide to help progress the ball up the field, though Picault takes a heavy touch this time as he looks to run past Moore, turn the ball over to Dallas in the process.
22'
The referee deems that the contact occured in a natural position and the replays confirm that Norris' arm was indeed very close to his body. That would've been a very harsh penalty if it was given! Dallas get the game restarted as Paes sends the ball long.
21'
Miami win successive corners and Cremaschi is the designated taker. His cross is deep, towards the far post, and it pinballs around the box before Falcon manages to get a shot off. It's blocked but the Miami players go up in arms appealing for a penalty! They think there's been a handball inside the box, and it looks like it might have touched one of the Dallas defenders' arms, but was it in an unnatural position?
18'
Inter Miami have now scored nine first-half goals in nine games. Only Nashville SC (11) and San Jose Earthquakes (11) have scored more in the MLS this season, while Miami have also now managed to find the net in each of their last 25 MLS home games. This is just the kind of response that Mascherano would have hoped for from his side following Dallas' early goal.
16'
GOAL!
F. Picault
GOOOAAAALLLL!!! MIAMI HAVE GOTTEN THEMSELVES LEVEL!! It's a lovely run from Fray to create the chance. The full-back burst up the pitch and got himself close to the byline before delivering a good, low cross into the box. Afonso managed to get a good touch on it, but Paes made a reflex save to deny him. The rebound fell lightly near the far post and Picault was there to tuck it away! 1-1 now!

14'
Cremaschi and Urhoghide get into a clash of shoulders as they challenge for a loose ball, and it's the Dallas centre-back who comes out on top this time, shepherding the ball away before knocking it off Cremaschi for a goal kick.
12'
Miami win a free-kick about 30 yards away out and Cremaschi is the one who lines up to take. Pink shirts flood the box as Miami look to get themselves back on level terms, but Cremaschi opts instead to shoot, but his wayward effort sails well over the bar and into the stands. That's a waste of a good opportunity and the Miami fans don't look too pleased!
10'
Moore has scored his first goal of the season and his first in nearly a year, having last found the net in May 2024 against Toronto. The right-back doesn't often find himself in goalscoring positions, but he took his shot very well from the right hand side of the penalty area.
8'
GOAL!
S. Moore
GOOOAAAALLLL!!! Shaq Moore gives Dallas a dream start!! Acosta and Ramiro combine neatly down the left as Dallas look to deliver a dangerous ball into the box from the wing. It takes a few deflections on its way as Farrington tries to attack it, and eventually falls for Moore, who fires a first-time shot into the bottom corner! 1-0 to Dallas!

Dallas have been a better side on the road this season than they have been at home, going undefeated in all five of their away matches in MLS so far. They will sense an opportunity today to pounce on a slightly overcooked Miami side, who were in action less than 72 hours ago against Vancouver.
5'
Acosta runs over to take a corner on the right and his delivery into the box is good, but Miami's defence manage to clear. Moments later, Acosta finds himself in space and delivers another excellent cross towards the far post, but Callender leaps up to cut it out.
3'
Picault plays a lovely pass into the right channel for Cremaschi to chase, but Dallas' defence is quick to cut it out. It poses an interesting question for the hosts though - how will they fare without their superstars in action today?
1'
And we're under way in Miami!

The teams will make their way out onto the pitch shortly. Kick-off is coming up very soon, so stay tuned for all the action!

Quill makes just two changes to the side that drew with Minnesota last time out. Abubakar drops to the bench in place of Ibeagha in the heart of defence, with Show, Ramiro and Kaick anchoring the midfield. Acosta takes Pedrinho’s place in the attacking midfield role, with Farrington and Julio rounding off the visitors’ attack.
0
Mascherano makes a whole host of changes to the side that lost to Vancouver in midweek, likely keeping the second leg of that Concacaf Champions Cup tie in mind. Callender replaces Ustari between the posts, while Aviles, Lujan and Martinez come in for Alba, Allen and Weigandt in defence. Falcon is the only player who retains his spot, as Mascherano reshuffles the midfield with Cremaschi, Bright and Afonso. Picault and Obando start up front, with neither Messi nor Suarez available from the bench.

FC Dallas, meanwhile, are looking to consolidate themselves and get their season back on track. Eric Quill’s side have only managed two wins in their last six games, and none in their last three, placing them in the bottom half of the Western Conference standings. They are currently 10th, though just one point separates them from the top seven. Their last league outing was a frustrating goalless draw with Minnesota United, which came after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Seattle Sounders the week before. Dallas have, however, never lost to Inter Miami (W2 D2), including recording a win in their one previous visit to Miami - a 1-0 victory in April 2023. Miami did eliminate Dallas on penalties in the round of 16 of the 2023 Leagues Cup in the last meeting between the sides, but the visitors will believe they have the firepower to trouble the hosts.

Inter Miami come into this match still reeling from their 2-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday in the first leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup semi-final. The hosts are currently fifth in MLS Eastern Conference standings, four points off FC Cincinnati in top spot with two games in hand. Benjamin Cremaschi made the difference for Miami in their last league outing, netting the only goal in their 1-0 win over Columbus Crew, though any confidence built from that win was surely lost after their defeat in Vancouver. That win over Columbus did, however, see Inter Miami equal the longest regular-season unbeaten streak in MLS history at 19 games, tying the Crew’s run in 2004-05 and FC Dallas’ run in 2010. What kind of response will we see from Javier Mascherano’s side tonight?
