Everton v Ipswich Town

updates

FT
Ipswich Town come from behind to earn a point as they draw 2-2 with Everton at Goodison Park. It all looked to be going the home side's way as goals from Beto and McNeil put them in a very comfortable position. Enciso pulled a goal back before half-time with one of the goals of the season, a stunning effort from way out, to give Ipswich hope. The second half was a mostly drab affair but there was to be a twist with just over 10 minutes to go as Hutchinson produced a fine run and cross which was finished off by substitute Hirst at the back post. Despite the good start under Moyes in his second spell in charge, they now have just one win in their last 10 games and haven't won a home match in three months. In terms of xG, Everton created 0.57 to Ipswich's 0.81. Moyes' side do move up to 13th with the point and now travel to Fulham next week while Ipswich host Brentford. That's all from me, thank you and goodbye!

FULL-TIME: EVERTON 2-2 IPSWICH TOWN
95'
Young's cross is easily claimed by Palmer which leads to groans from the Goodison faithful. That might just be that in terms of action this afternoon.
93'
Enciso comes off for the final few minutes and is loudly applauded by the travelling Ipswich supporters. Tuanzebe is his replacement.
92'
Young blatantly blocks off Clarke and Ipswich win a free-kick. The veteran is fortunate to escape a yellow card there.
91'
A hobbling Enciso manages to win a throw deep in the Everton half. The travelling supporters applaud their loanee for a performance full of quality and endeavour.
90'
There will be six minutes of added time. Plenty of time for either side to find a winner from somewhere.
90'
There's another substitution as Iroegbunam replaces Gueye in the middle.
89'
It's a late change from Everton as Alcaraz comes off for Chermiti.
87'
Everton seem to be the team that are likelier to find a winner but they aren't exactly applying too much pressure to the Ipswich backline. A cross from Young is easily headed away and the away side can clear.
85'
Hirst shows decent strength to hold the ball up and then win a foul off O'Brien. He's made a big impact from the bench after coming on for Delap.
83'
Calvert-Lewin wins a free-kick in a decent area for the hosts but Palmer manages to palm away the delivery from Harrison. It's been a very flat attacking display from Everton.
82'
Ipswich make another substitution as Taylor is replaced by Cajuste.
82'
We're inside the last 10 minutes and Everton make another change as Young comes on for Patterson.
81'
Hirst, just after scoring, now receives a booking for barging into Branthwaite straight after the restart. The Everton fans are increasingly frustrated and angry with how this match has panned out.
79'
Mykolenko is now booked for a pretty reckless challenge.
79'
GOAL!
G. Hirst
GOOOALLL!!!!!! AN EQUALISER! Everton are made to pay for a poor second half! It comes from Hutchinson who isolates Gueye down this right side before delivering a lofted cross for Hirst at the back post and he heads home! Everton 2-2 Ipswich Town.

78'
McNeil is replaced by Harrison as Everton make a double change.
77'
Beto receives warm applause from the Goodison crowd as he comes off for Calvert-Lewin.
76'
It's been 30 minutes since Everton last attempted a shot in this game. In saying that, there has been a lack of goalmouth action at the opposite end of the pitch too. A pretty forgettable second half with little in the way of quality.
74'
Patterson shows some nifty footwork to create some space for himself before lifting a cross at the back post for Beto but there's just too much on it. The home side still look relatively comfortable despite the one-goal advantage.
72'
It's Patterson who wins the ball off Clarke this time as Everton halt the latest attack from Ipswich. They just need to see this game out for the final 20 minutes to earn their first win at home since the first day of February.
70'
Clarke drives forward down the left for Ipswich but O'Brien shows great recovery pace to match his run and then win the ball off him. Him and Branthwaite have been largely untroubled this afternoon.
68'
Phillips comes on for Morsy as Ipswich complete a triple change.
68'
Delap hasn't really been at the races today and comes off for Hirst.
67'
Ipswich make their first change of the afternoon as Chaplin is replaced by Clarke.
65'
Chaplin receives a yellow card for the challenge. There has been an edge to the match despite the relatively low stakes surrounding the fixture in terms of its importance.
65'
Alcaraz is booked for his reaction after being on the receiving end of a challenge on Chaplin.
63'
Mykolenko races up the left flank as an attacking outlet and digs out a cross but none of his teammates are in close proximity to the ball to meet it.
61'
Just over an hour gone and Everton hold a one-goal advantage over Ipswich. They're just beginning to turn the screw in this half as they search for another goal.
59'
McNeil again causes a few problems as he isolates Burgess and delivers another cross which Palmer can only parry away. Luckily for the goalkeeper, there's nobody in Everton colours to mop up the rebound.
57'
Enciso is still on and still causing problems! It's brilliant from Delap in actual fact as he takes up a position on the left and manages to dig the ball out for the Paraguayan from around 18 yards out but his shot is straight at Pickford.
55'
Everton threaten for the first time in the half as McNeil cuts in from the right and produces a teasing cross which just evades Beto and Ndiaye in the penalty area. They really need another goal to kill this game off.
53'
Enciso has been in the wars for Ipswich and has now gone down again. It looks like he might not be able to continue and that would be a huge blow for the visitors. It's a shame for the game in general as he's arguably been the best player on the pitch.
51'
Enciso continues to show his quality this afternoon. A lovely change of direction sees him burst past Ndiaye before being brought down. Ipswich now have a free-kick in a decent position.
49'
Play is stopped momentarily as Garner and Enciso are left on the deck after colliding with each other. Both are fine to carry on.
47'
The first real action of the half sees Beto attempt to latch on to a pass from Branthwaite and Ipswich are forced to concede a throw deep in their own half.
45'
Everton get the second half under way. No changes from either side.
HT
Moyes will be hoping his side can hold onto their advantage with Everton not enjoying a great run of recent form. The live win probability has their chances of winning at 79.3%, with the prospect of a draw at 15.7% and Ipswich coming back to win at 5%. The second half is coming right up.
HT
An entertaining first-half ends with Everton leading Ipswich Town 2-1. The home side made a really encouraging start on their penultimate game at Goodison Park and took the lead after Beto headed home following a curling cross from Alcaraz. They doubled their advantage as McNeil scored a stunning strike from distance. Ipswich pulled a goal back towards the end of the half through another unbelievable goal as Enciso beat Pickford with a wonderful effort from distance. In terms of xG, Everton have generated 0,45 to Ipswich's 0.38.
48'
HALF-TIME: EVERTON 2-1 IPSWICH TOWN
46'
Enciso goes down on the far touchline next to the Everton dugout after a challenge from McNeil but the referee calls no foul. He's had a really strong half for the away side.
45'
There will be three minutes of added time for the first half. It's been a really enthralling first 45.
43'
Ipswich are applying heavy pressure as we approach the end of the half. They win a corner which is met by the head of O'Shea who directs it into the danger area but none of his teammates can navigate the space to test Pickford with an effort on goal.
41'
An assist for Burgess but just like McNeil's goal, all credit should go to the goalscorer. Ipswich have their tails up now!
41'
GOAL!
J. Enciso
WHAT A GOAL!!!!!!!! IPSWICH GET ONE BACK! Enciso has been a livewire all half and gets his reward. He picks the ball up from around 35 yards, shrugs off the challenge of Gueye before delivering a dipping, swerving strike which flies past Pickford before he can barely react! Oh my goodness! Everton 2-1 Ipswich Town.

38'
CHANCE! Ipswich should really be on the scoresheet. Enciso isolates Patterson on the left and manages to find some space in the area but with the goal gaping, he skewers his effort wide of the near post. A player of his undoubted quality should have found the net.
36'
That was McNeil's first goal since scoring against Crystal Palace in September 2024. It's also his fourth of the campaign. Only Leicester and Southampton have conceded more goals in the last 15 minutes of the first half than Ipswich. They have a mountain to climb now.
35'
Patterson picks up the assist for a simple pass but the goal is all about McNeil. He's had a tough time after struggling with a knee issue but that was a stunning strike.
35'
GOAL!
D. McNeil
GOOALL!!!!!!! EVERTON DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! It's a stunner from McNeil. He receives the ball around 20 yards from goal and fires in a shot which swerves away from Palmer and finds the bottom corner! That is some strike from the Englishman! Everton 2-0 Ipswich Town.

33'
Morsy is now booked for a challenge from behind on Ndiaye. The midfielder protests his innocence, but replays show he got nothing of the ball.
31'
Everton have avoided defeat in their last 11 matches when scoring first in the Premier League, since a 3-2 loss to Aston Villa on 14th September 2024. That was when former manager Sean Dyche was in charge.
29'
There's more drama involving Delap just a minute later as Branthwaite goes down after a challenge from the striker. Replays show that he received an elbow in the stomach from the Englishman, but he manages to escape a second yellow. That decision is not popular with the Goodison crowd.
28'
O'Brien is also booked for his role in the scuffle.
28'
There's a scrap on the far touchline with Delap and O'Brien both grappling with each other after the ball had gone. The Ipswich striker receives a yellow card.
26'
Alcaraz was handed a start today due ot Doucoure's unavailability and rewards his manager's faith with a delicious cross.
26'
GOAL!
Beto
GOOOALLLLLL!!!!!!! EVERTON HAVE THEIR LEAD! It's pretty simple in its construction as Alcaraz curls a gorgeous cross from the left side which Beto manages to glance home into the corner with a well-placed header. Everton 1-0 Ipswich Town.

25'
There's sustained pressure coming from the home side as Beto flicks a header on from inside the penalty area but Ipswich manage to clear their lines in this instance.
23'
Everton go forward again as Ndiaye picks out Patterson making the overlapping run from the right but the Scotsman's weak effort is easily saved by Palmer. That was the closest Everton have come to scoring but the keeper was still left untroubled.
22'
Encisco produces a fine bit of skill to beat Patterson down Ipswich's left side and the full-back ends up fouling the attacker moments later.
20'
Some really neat interplay from the away side opens up space for Hutchinson to pull the trigger from the edge of the area but his goalbound effort is blocked by Branthwaite. McKenna's men do offer a threat on the break.
18'
Ipswich have won their last two away league games against Everton, beating them 3-0 in September 2000 and 2-1 in February 2002. It's been over 20 years since their last visit but three-in-a-row would be some feat for the Tractor Boys.
16'
Beto attempts to sneak in behind the visitors' backline again but Palmer is alert to the danger and races out of his goal to collect the ball. Brilliant atmosphere at Goodison Park.
14'
Beto is already causing a few problems with his presence as he gets in front of the Ipswich defence to meet Patterson's cross with a header but once again once of his early efforts sails into the stands.
12'
Palmer punches the delivery away with the ball ultimately finding Beto on the edge of the area who attempts an ambitous overhead kick but it sails over the crossbar.
11'
Ndiaye sees his cross blocked by Taylor and Everton win another corner from this right side. They are controlling all aspects of the game at this stage,.
9'
Only Leicester (16) have failed to score in more different Premier League games than Everton (15) this season. The Toffees last drew a blank in more different matches back in 1998-99 (17). They will hope to find an early goal this afternoon.
7'
The corner is kept alive by Branthwaite at the back post who loops a header back for Beto but he can't generate much power on his effort in the air and Palmer is able to make a simple stop and hold onto the ball.
6'
McNeil's tricky run from the inside right position causes problems for the Ipswich backline and Greaves is forced to concede a corner with a sliding challenge to nick the ball away from Beto. Everton seem to be moving through the gears after a lacklustre opening few minutes.
4'
The first bit of attacking play of the match comes from the visitors as Delap picks the ball up from deep and advances through the centre of the pitch before attempting an effort on goal but he slips at the vital moment. Decent ball-carrying from the English striker.
2'
Quite remarkably, this is Moyes’ 1,167th game in charge in his managerial career across all competitions, but his first ever meeting with Ipswich. They’re the first ‘new’ English club he’s faced since beating Doncaster Rovers 4-0 while in charge of West Ham in January 2021.

Ipswich get us under way on this sunny afternoon on Merseyside.

The players are now walking out on the Goodison Park pitch and kick-off is just minutes away! A wonderful atmosphere for the penultimate match at one of English football's great stadiums.
0
Ben Johnson is suspended following his red card last week and joins fellow full-back Leif Davis who also suffered the same fate against Arsenal a few weeks ago. There is no place in the squad for Jadon Philogene, Wes Burns or Sam Szmodics as they are all suffering from injuries.
0
Broja is back after being ineligible against his parent club but only makes the bench here. Loanees Jesper Lindstrom and Orel Mangala are not in the squad due to injury and have likely played their last game for the club. McNeil makes a first start since knee surgery earlier in the year. Doucoure doesn't make the squad and is replaced by Alcaraz.

Ipswich had their relegation confirmed last week after a 3-0 defeat away to Newcastle United. The Tractor Boys look set to remain in 18th place for the final four matches of the season, though they are 15 points off West Ham United who occupy 17th, which just goes to show the chasm between the promoted sides of this campaign and the rest of the division. Kieran McKenna's side have still shown some good signs on the road this season with two thirds of their points coming away from home and they will hope to inflict a defeat on Everton who have been in poor form for some time.
0
Everton continued their dreadful record at Stamford Bridge last week as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea which extends their winless run in the Premier League to 30 matches at the stadium. Despite a fine start to David Moyes' second reign, they have now won just one of their last nine matches. Nevertheless, the Toffees can move up two places to 13th with a win here and will want to put on a show for their supporters as they prepare for the penultimate game at Goodison Park. After winning 2-0 at Portman Road in October, Everton will be aiming to complete just a second Premier League double over Ipswich, after also managing that feat in 1994-95.
