Tiger Woods joins Rory McIlroy on PGA Tour board to give players crucial majority vote on key matters

Tiger Woods has agreed to join the PGA Tour policy board as a player director.

Woods joins Rory McIlroy and four others - Patrick Cantlay, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnati and Webb Simpson - in the role.

The 15-time major champion takes the tally of player directors to six, a key number as it now outnumbers the independent directors on the board, effectively giving players the final say on tour matters.

It comes after a number of the PGA Tour's top stars felt blindsided by the tour's pact with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, which funds rival tour LIV Golf.

A confirmed that 'player directors will have full transparency and the authority to approve — or to decline to approve — any potential changes to the tour as part of the framework agreement discussions'.

This is a critical point for the tour, and the players will do their best to make certain that any changes that are made in tour operations are in the best interest of all tour stakeholders, including fans, sponsors and players.
