Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan to play in iconic golf tournament under pseudonym

Yasir Al-Rumayyan will play in the DP World Tour's Dunhill Links Championship this week under a pseudonym.
The Newcastle chairman and governor of the Saudi Public Investment Fund [PIF] is set to tee it up at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns under the name 'Andrew Waterman'.
According to , Al-Rumayyan has been given a sponsor's invite by the Johann Rupert, who is the driving force behind the iconic event.
LIV Golf chief executive Al-Rumayyan will play alongside R&A CEO Martin Slumbers in the £4.1million tournament.
It comes as the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and the PIF continue to negotiate a new joint entity despite months of all-out war.
Al-Rumayyan is at the centre of talks and it was revealed in July that the 53-year-old asked to become a member of the R&A and Aususta as part of the deal.
It is understood that the Saudi tycoon did not attend the Ryder Cup to avoid detracting from the event.
Besides his control of Newcastle and LIV Golf, Al-Rumayyan is also chairman of oil giant Aramco and Saudi Pro-League club Al-Hilal.
Al-Rumayyan is on the board of Uber, SoftBank and Reliance, making him one of the world's most powerful individuals.
He is also obsessed with golf, competing in a number of LIV Golf pro-ams and attending multiple big events, including The 2023 Open.
Rupert, the chairman of Dunhill’s parent company Richemont and also chairman of the event’s championship committee, told The Scotsman: “Sport is supposed to unite people, not divide. We need to get peace.”
A number of LIV Golf players will also compete in the event as golf works towards a more united future.
Talor Gooch and Louis Oosthuizen are among those who travel to Scotland with no outstanding fines to pay the DP World Tour.
