Rory McIlroy wants to follow Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds into football ownership but explains why it’s a bad idea

Rory McIlroy breathed in deeply and let out a big sigh.
Yes, McIroy, an avid Manchester United fan, would love to own a football team one day, following in the footsteps of famous Hollywood actor and Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds.
But the reality of becoming financially and emotionally linked with a club is probably too much for McIlroy, who recently won the Match IX and $2.4 million for charity.
"I read that you're a big Man U fan and I also read up on your career earnings," a TV host said to McIlroy. "Would there ever be any chance that you would buy a (football) team, much like Ryan Reynolds did?"
"I ... ," said McIroy, who represented the PGA in the mixed-gender match.
Then he made a pained face while sighing out loud.
"I'd like to," McIlroy said. "But I'm so passionate about it that it would be like a labour of love and I don't know if it would be for the right reasons."
The No. 2-ranked golfer in the world and 24-time PGA Tour winner was more enthusiastic discussing his close ties to Formula One.
He's invested in Alpine, which features Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon as drivers.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are part of a big-name group that invested more than $200 million in the F1 team.
"I'm part of owning a Formula One team with him (Ryan Reynolds), so that was pretty cool," McIlroy said.
One of the best golfers on the planet also revealed that he's more than just an F1 investor.
He likes speed and he enjoys going fast.
"I've got a couple of cars, yeah," McIlroy said.
The Northern Ireland star was asked to be more specific about his chosen rides.
"I've had a bunch of stuff," McIlroy said. "I've got a Ferrari at the minute, which I really like."
