Edoardo Molinari books Ryder Cup ticket

Edoardo Molinari enjoyed a memorable double on Sunday as he first picked up the Johnnie Walker Championship before being named as one of Colin Montgomerie’s wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup.

Molinari will join three-time major winner Padraig Harrington and world number ten Luke Donald as wild cards. He and brother Francesco, an automatic qualifier, will become the first siblings on either side when Europe face the United States at Celtic Manor between October 1-3.

The European team’s other members are Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Ross Fisher, Peter Hanson and Miguel Angel Jimenez, while Justin Rose and Paul Casey both miss out.

Sergio Garcia was also revealed as Montgomerie’s fourth vice-captain and will take his place alongside Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjorn.

Defending champions the United States are due to announce their four wil card picks on September 7.
