PGA Championship second round delayed due to fatal accident near the course – Rory McIlroy among star names who may not finish

A fatal accident near Valhalla Golf Club has forced an 80-minute delay to the start of the PGA Championship second round.
The first group were scheduled to tee off at 12.15pm BST, but it has been confirmed golfers will have to wait an extra one hour and 20 minutes to start off their round.
An announcement from the PGA Championship on X read: "The start of Round 2 is delayed due to a serious accident near the course.
"The next update will be at 12pm BST and the starting time will be at least one hour after an update is made."
They then issued another update, where they declared, 'All Round 2 Starting Times are delayed 1 hour and 20 minutes from the originally published time.'
Meanwhile the Louisville Metro Police Department has revealed that a fatal vehicle collision occurred near the course.
It led the PGA Championship to post: "This morning we were devastated to learn that a worker with one of our vendors was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club.
"This is heartbreaking to all of us involved with the PGA Championship.
"We extend our sincere condolences to their family and loved ones.”
The accident could lead to golfers such as Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka failing to finish their second round on Friday.
McIlroy, who is playing alongside Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose, is now due to tee off at 3pm local time, and with there to be likely slow play and sunset at 8.45pm, he may be forced to complete his second round on Saturday.
The same can be said for reigning champion Koepka, who is also scheduled to tee off in the late afternoon alongside Max Homa and Jordan Spieth.
World number one Scottie Scheffler, who recently won The Masters, was caught up in the accident, and was detained by police officers in a separate unrelated incident.
The American has been pictured in handcuffs following a misunderstanding which led him attempting to drive past a police officer into Valhalla.
ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington posted on : "The police officer attempted to attach himself to Scheffler’s car, and Scheffler then stopped his vehicle at the entrance to Valhalla.
"The police officer then began to scream at Scheffler to get out of the car.
"When Scheffler exited the vehicle, the officer shoved Scheffler against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs. He is now being detained in the back of a police car."
As Scheffler was moved toward a police car, an officer said, "He's going to jail."
