Robert MacIntyre was overcome with his emotion after scooping his first PGA Tour success having drafted in his dad to be his caddie.

The Scotsman triumphed at the RBC Canadian Open after shooting a two-under 68 to beat Benjamin Griffin by a single stroke at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ontario.

MacIntyre, who was part of Team Europe's Ryder Cup victory last year, only called up father Dougie the Saturday before the tournament to ask for his emergency services having suddenly felt homesick.

And the pair proved to be a formidable team, resulting in MacIntyre scooping a £1.33m paycheck - the biggest financial win by a Scottish golfer at a single competition.

The 27-year-old was in tears after winning the event, where he has become the Scottish golfer to taste glory at a PGA tournament since Martin Laird's success at the 2020 Shriners Children's Open.

Speaking after his Canadian Open triumph, he said: "This is just everything, for me and my family, my girlfriend, my team, I can't believe I've done it with him on the bag.

"I'm crying with joy but I'm laughing because I didn't think it was possible.

"I was going down the last and my dad's trying to tell me to stay focused and swing smooth because [on Saturday] I got a little bit too fast, but in my head I wasn't listening to him.

"I wanted to win this for my dad, this is the guy who has taught me the game of golf and I just can't believe I have done this with him on the bag."

And it seems that MacInytre certainly celebrated in style, after he took to his at 1am to share an image of him tucked up in bed.

With a huge grin on his face, he simply captioned the image, 'Good night', accompanied by trophy, beer and the Canadian flag emojis.

In a video shared by the PGA Tour following his victory, MacIntyre enjoyed a FaceTime video call with his mother - one she certainly will never forget.

His proud mother was left speechless, leading MacIntyre to say: "Guess what mum? That might be the mortgage paid off."

The pair then burst into laughter, with his mother simply stating: "That was incredible."

But it seems as though the winning partnership will be coming to an end after MacIntyre insisted his dad won't be by his side at the US Open in three weeks.

Asked whether Dougie - the head greenkeeper at Glencruitten Golf Club in Oban - will be on caddie duty, MacIntyre declared: "No, dad's on the flight home on Monday."
