Rickie Fowler given unusual privilege at PGA Tour event as he hopes to taste success again ahead of The Open

Rickie Fowler is eager to taste success again as soon as possible – but he’ll also be enjoying the tastes of the concessions at Rocket Mortgage Classic this weekend.
Fowler is the reigning champion in Detroit following his emotional victory in the event last year.
The 35-year-old’s struggles over the past few years have been well-documented and he completed a remarkable return to the winner’s circle at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
He’ll head back to Michigan this week to try and defend his crown and has been given a unique privilege ahead of the action getting underway.
In honour of the 2023 champ, Fowler will have ‘Rick’s Pick Sandwich’ in the concession stands at Detroit Golf Club this weekend.
The California-native has elected a brioche bun filled with Cajun turkey, shredded lettuce, pickles, pepperoncinis, mayo, vinegar, oil and oregano – sounds superb to us!
Fowler tucked into his creation at his pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday and fans will no doubt flock to the cantering facilities to get their hands on a sarnie too.
Back on the course, former world number four Fowler hopes to defend his Rocket Mortgage Classic title and ‘reignite’ his season.
Fowler, who won the Scottish Open at Gullane in 2015, will return to Scotland for the 2024 Open at Royal Troon on July 18.
The American has struggled at the majors this season but is hoping for a big week in Detroit to find some form.
"Obviously it was a nice week [last year] and a big relief after the few years leading up to it,” he said.
"Looking forward to being back and picking up where we left off last year. I haven't played quite that well since then so it would be nice to kind of get things going again this week.
"I feel like it's a fairly simple, old-school golf course and if you can just get to the green, it becomes a bit of [a case of] who can make more putts throughout the week.
"We don't get to play very many old-school golf courses like this so it's a treat for a lot of guys who can appreciate old-school golf course architecture.
"It's a fun course to play and especially having good memories and coming off the win last year, we'll see if we can kind of reignite some stuff from then and get past the little bit of a slow year it's been and just go have some fun.
"I started to score a little bit better last week, which is obviously the name of the game, putting up good numbers.
"Putted well last week; kind of the first week to see some good progress and kind of build some momentum and some confidence going into this week."
The Rocket Mortgage Classic will be live on talkSPORT 2 from Thursday to Sunday this week
