The FedEx Cup playoffs continue this week as Viktor Hovland defends his title at the 2024 BMW Championship in Denver, Colorado.

Hovland overcame a three-shot deficit in the final round of play to beat Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick to the trophy a year ago.

He now comes into this tournament off the back of a tied-second place in the FedEx St. Jude Championship last weekend while Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are in form too. 

This is the second of three events in the FedEx Cup playoffs, with players fighting to finish inside the top 30 and secure a spot in the Tour Championship next week. 

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama staged a late fightback after an alarming wobble to claim a two-shot victory on an eventful final day at the St Jude on Sunday.

BMW Championship 2024: Date and how to follow

The 2024 BMW Championship began on Thursday, August 22 and will take place until the final round of play on Sunday.

It will be held at the Castle Pines Golf Club in Denver, Colorado. 

Play for the opening round started at 8:30am local time which is 3:30pm UK time.

For the final round of play, things are set to get going at 2:25pm UK time.

BMW Championship 2024: Field and tee times 

The top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings will all be involved in Denver. 

Twenty players missed out on qualification after the St. Jude Championship last week and that will be reduced by a further 20 after this event. 

Matsuyama comes into this off the back of a win that boosted him up the overall FedEx Cup standings and into the top three. 

Ludvig Aberg, Sahith Theegala and Wyndham Clark are some other standout names involved, while Robert MacIntyre and Shane Lowry are also featuring. 

Groupings and tee times have been confirmed, with Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele paired together

BMW Championship 2024: What has been said? 

Hovland came from three shots behind the lead in the final round to win the BMW Championship last year as he went on to claim fedex Cup glory. 

And he described his winning round as the ‘best he’s ever played’. 

Speaking after getting his hands on the trophy, he said: “To win the BMW Championship at a course like Olympia Fields against the world’s best players is a really incredible feeling.

“Given the circumstances - a playoff event, this golf course - the way I played the last holes was pretty special."
