Rory McIlroy suffers ‘total rupture of ankle ligament’ during football match

Rory McIlroy has ruptured ligaments in his left ankle during a football match but has NOT ruled himself out of the Open Championship.
The Northern Irish golfer, who is one of the favourites to lift the Claret Jug, posted a picture of himself on Instagram wearing a support boot.
A statement on said: "Total rupture of left ATFL (ankle ligament) and associated joint capsule damage in a soccer kickabout with friends on Saturday. Continuing to assess extent of injury and treatment plan day by day.
"Rehab already started..... Working hard to get back as soon as I can."
But the 26-year-old has not ruled himself out of defending his crown ar St Andrews next week.
