Ryder Cup 2018: Patrick Reed rips into Jordan Spieth in scathing attack on American team-mates

The Masters champion gave a damning assessment of the USA's team spirit and criticised captain Jim Furyk as Europe regained the famous trophy in emphatic fashion

Patrick Reed launched an extraordinary attack on his American team-mates after they were condemned to a humiliating 17.5-10.5 Ryder Cup defeat in Paris.

The Masters champion, who claimed just one point from three matches, was furious not to be partnered with Jordan Spieth after the pair performed so well together at Hazeltine in 2016.

Reed, a controversial figure who splits opinion among fellow players and fans alike, was also fuming with captain Jim Furyk for sitting him out of two sessions and criticised the team's spirit.

“The issue’s obviously Jordan not wanting to play with me,” Reed said.

“I don’t have any issue with Jordan. When it comes right down to it I don’t care if I like the person I’m paired with or if the person likes me as long as it works.

“He and I know how to make each other better. We know how to get the job done.

“For somebody as successful in the Ryder Cup as I am I don’t think it’s smart to sit me twice,” he fumed.

“Every day I saw, ‘Leave your egos at the door’. They [Europe] do that better than us.”

Reed was paired with golfing legend Tiger Woods, who remarkably lost all four of his matches.

Woods looked a shadow of the man who clinched a first PGA Tour victory in five years just a week earlier, and the 42-year-old admitted he only had himself to blame.

"It's disappointing because I went 0-4 and that's four points to the European team.

"And I'm one of the contributing factors to why we lost the cup, and it's not a lot of fun.

"It's frustrating because we came here, I thought we were all playing pretty well, and I just didn't perform at the level that I had been playing, and just got behind early in the matches and never got back."
