Ryder Cup records for Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia: European veterans hoping to star at Whistling Straits – ages, world rankings and stats

Team Europe will boast two of the greatest ever Ryder Cup stars at Whistling Straits this weekend with Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia in their ranks.
Padraig Harrington has selected Poulter and Garcia as his wild card picks for the upcoming Ryder Cup over in Wisconsin.
The Europeans have gone for experience in the 43rd edition of golf’s blockbuster team event with just three rookies in their team, one of whom is former Open champion Shane Lowry.
While the likes of Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood will be the backbone of Harrington’s team, Poulter and Garcia are expected to bring the fireworks.
The duo, who will both be in action on Friday morning, have already written their names into Ryder Cup folklore and will certainly not be intimated by what will be a boisterous and hugely-partisan USA crowd.
They’ll no doubt want to roll back the years throughout the week and put on the show.
Nicknamed ‘The Postman’ because he always delivers, Poulter was forced to settle for a vice-captaincy role in 2016 due to injury and looked to have lost his PGA Tour card in 2017 before a mistake in the way his points had been calculated was spotted by a fellow player.
Poulter is without a tour win since the 2018 Houston Open and missed the cut in the final qualifying event at Wentworth.
But his Ryder Cup record is superb, claiming a total of 15 points over his six events.
He inspired Europe to their stunning ‘Miracle at Medinah’ win at the 2012 Ryder Cup, winning four points from four including a superb singles victory over Webb Simpson.
Poulter also beat USA superstar Dustin Johnson on the final day of the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris as Europe romped to victory.
A talismanic figure for Europe, Garcia was brought in as a vice-captain by Colin Montgomerie in 2010 despite becoming disenchanted with golf and taking a two-month break from playing.
He was out of form when given a wild card in 2018 but justified it in style with three wins from four matches to become Europe’s leading points scorer in the contest.
Garcia now has 25.5 points in total in the event and has played in nine Ryder Cups.
He beat Rickie Fowler in the singles in 2018, halved with Phil Mickelson in 2016 and saw off Jim Furyk in 2014 and 2012.
