Friends turned foes Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal to fight at UFC 272 in March after years of bad blood and gym disputes – reports

Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington will finally settle their differences inside a UFC Octagon after the former friends-turned enemies agreed a deal to fight.

Masvidal, who still trains at American Top Team in Florida, was previously a sparring partner, roommate and close friend of Covington.

Yet ‘Chaos’ clashed with several of the biggest personalities inside the gym, including Masvidal and Dustin Poirier, and left on acrimonious terms in 2020.

According to , UFC executive Hunter Campbell has finalised a deal which would finally see the two men meet at UFC 272 in March in Las Vegas.

Journalist Ariel Helwani has also confirmed the pair have verbally agreed to fight on this date, although that is subject to change.

Masvidal has not fought since April when he was knocked out cold for the first time in his 50-fight career by welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in their rematch.

The 37-year-old was set to face Leon Edwards at UFC 262 in December, but was forced to pull out through injury and Covington claims ‘Gamebred’ actually broke his ribs in sparring.

“I'll tell you the truth of what happened with Jorge Masvidal for real. I still have people at his gym that still love me, and I'm the people's champ for a reason,' Covington claimed.

“So, I get the insider scoop on everything. So, that fragile dude, Street Judas Jorge Masvidal, he broke his ribs. He fractured his ribs last Saturday in training, and yeah, he's fragile and he had to pull out of the fight.

“It's too bad that people still love me over at his gym more than they even love him.”

Covington also lost his last fight, a title rematch against Usman also, at UFC 268 when he was dropped on multiple occasions before losing a decision.
