Deiveson Figueiredo became a two-time UFC flyweight champion at UFC 270 by winning his trilogy fight with Brandon Moreno.

The Brazilian finally got a win over Moreno to dethrone him for the title with a unanimous 48-47, 48-47, 48-47 decision.

The fight got off to a hot start and both men were active in the first round, but Moreno seemed to be the faster striker.

Figueiredo gave the Mexican constant reminders of his power, though.

The second round was certainly Moreno’s. His output was incredibly high but he was landing with his power punches at such a rate that one had to wonder how much longer Figueiredo could last.

Figueiredo’s best moment came in the third round where the pair exchanged flurries and the round ended with Moreno in a guillotine choke. If it wasn’t for the bell, the champion was in tremendous trouble. A beautiful leg kick dropped Moreno to start Figueiredo’s momentum.

In the final round, both men were trying their best to stay out of exchanging until the final 30 seconds when both competitors just exploded into an exchange where Figueiredo hurt Moreno first, but then the champion finished strongly with some hooks of his own,

The judges all sided with Figueiredo when it was all said and done and no one could really complain.

It was a super close fight which could have gone either way. Figueiredo didn’t clearly defeat Moreno and Moreno wasn’t robbed - just a classic encounter.

The new champion said he would be up for facing Moreno in a fourth installement of their rivalry, but this time on the challenger’s home turf of Mexico.

Former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo was in Figueiredo’s corner and the Brazilian paid tribute to the Olympic gold medallist and the influence he had on his camp for this fight.

Moreno accepted that Figueiredo had a batter gameplan for him this time around, but he seemed enthused about the idea of facing the champion again, but in Mexico.
