UFC star Jorge Masvidal charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief after Colby Covington altercation outside Miami steakhouse

Jorge Masvidal has been charged by police following his altercation with Colby Covington.
Reports emerged of an incident between the two UFC stars at a Miami steakhouse late on Monday night.
Miami Beach Police Department that Masvidal had been arrested and charged with aggravated battery/great bodily harm as well as criminal mischief.
He is currently being held on a $15,000 bond in Miami and the charges have a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
Masvidal and Covington used to be friends but that relationship broke down and has turned into one of the bitterest rivalries in the sport.
The pair had the chance to settle one of the most bitter feuds in the sport at UFC 272 earlier this month, with Covington winning by unanimous decision.
Many would have assumed that after 25 minutes in the octagon they would be prepared to move on, but it did nothing to dampen their hatred.
That appeared to spill over in an altercation with reports claiming Masvidal attacked Covington.
Covington was having dinner in the restaurant with the social media group Nelk Boys, who posted a video with the UFC star.
He was then filmed being surrounding by police officers, who responded to the incident.
In the video obtained by TMZ, Covington can be heard saying: “He’s over here swinging, trying to come at me, and I ran…”
He is then heard asking social media star Bob Menery, “How would [Masvidal] know I’m here?”
“I don’t know,” Menery responded in the clip. “You’re all over the internet.”
Masvidal was quick to respond to the altercation with a video on social media.
He said: “I’m calling this show your face challenge. Wassup, I’m from Dade County. You talk that s*** you’ve got to back it up. That’s how my city rolls, man.”
Masvidal called for a rematch straight after his loss to Covington at UFC 272, but may have to wait some time.
His rival is the number one contender in the welterweight division and will likely have a shot at the champion, Kamaru Usman, in the near future.
Usman is due to face Brit Leon Edwards in his next title defence.
Masvidal is the second UFC star to be arrested, and charged, this week as Conor McGregor was charged after being arrested for dangerous driving.
