Conor McGregor is a former dual-weight UFC world champion, but was left somewhat starstruck when Celtic legend John Hartson recently popped into his Dublin pub for some food and drink.

The MMA superstar took to Twitter to show his appreciation for the Hoops legend who visited The Black Forge Inn on Saturday afternoon.

"The Celtic FC legend himself, Mr. John Hartson in enjoying the finest food and drinks Ireland has to offer at The Black Forge Inn,” McGregor posted alongside a video of the retired Welsh footballer on Twitter.

McGregor has been an avid football fan since he was a child and has expressed his support for Manchester United and Celtic in the past but now he is hoping to take his love for the sport one step further.

The Irishman has often said that he wants to own a football club and put himself forward when to purchase Chelsea when Roman Abramovich first put the club up for sale.

Many believed McGregor wasn't being serious but the 33-year-old insists he is dead serious about owning a football club, later suggesting Celtic could be the one he eventually takes over.

“I do not speak in jest. I am exploring this," McGregor wrote.

"Celtic from Dermot Desmond, Manchester United from the Glazers, and now the recently up for sale Chelsea football club. All being explored.  A football franchise purchase is in my future make no mistake about it.”

If that was to happen, McGregor already has the approval of Celtic legend Hartson, who described the UFC fighter as ‘a real diamond of a guy’ when they first met last year.

“Pleasure to meet the main man last week.. couldn’t have been more hospitable.. a real diamond of a guy,” Hartson posted on Instagram alongside a picture of him and McGregor.

While purchasing a football club is perhaps in the future for ‘Notorious’ right now he is fully focused on returning to the Octagon and the win column.

McGregor suffered a fractured tibia and fibula at UFC 264 in July 2021 and is currently in training for his eagerly anticipated comeback fight which is supposed to take place later this year.
