‘What the f*** is this s***?’ – Nate Diaz stormed out of interview after enduring Conor McGregor insults that had reporter cackling ahead of UFC 196 upset

Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor have shared one of the greatest rivalries in UFC history but, unfortunately, it seems we will not get a trilogy fight.
In 2015, McGregor agreed to jump up to welterweight for a short-notice bout with Diaz after lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos was forced out of their UFC 196 match-up due to injury.
With just 10 days to promote a new fight, McGregor and Diaz got to work with a number of joint press events that only added to what was an already exciting pay-per-view headliner.
During one interview with CNBC, things got a bit much for the California native who walked out after being insulted by McGregor who had reporter Jane Wells in stitches throughout.
The interview started with Wells introducing herself and explaining that they will be talking about money, prompting ‘Notorious’ to advise his opponent to take a back seat for this one.
“I’ll take over from here, Nate. You can bounce. Take a coffee break and by coffee break I mean bring me my coffee,” McGregor said.
When the reporter was done laughing, she asked both men to count to 10 in order to check the sound quality before they officially got underway.
“Nate can only count to five. Count to five, Nate, if you can,” McGregor interjected to earn another chuckle from the interviewer who clearly found him amusing.
The now-37-year-old didn’t find the comments funny and became frustrated when money remained the talking point throughout the discussion.
Especially when Wells asked questions like: “How much of the purse that you’re going to take home do you owe to Conor McGregor?”
“I don’t owe him s***! He owes me,” Diaz replied.
“Anything over $40,00 he owes me because that was his last pay cheque. I wipe my a*** with that money. I tip that money,” McGregor then boasted.
Diaz became visibly uncomfortable when Wells later asks him about his financial dreams, he replied: “I don’t know. Who gives a f***? What is this The Money Channel? What the f*** is this s***?”
The BMF title challenger began looking at the exit door and fiddling with his mic before the interviewer and ‘Mystic Mac' started giggling.
“I could talk to you about money all day, lady. Send me a picture, let me see what you look like,” McGregor said before Wells tried to ask another question and Diaz walked out.
“Alright, he’s done. Nate has left, Conor. It’s just you. So, I’m going to ask you a couple of questions,” Wells said before she and McGregor finished up the interview.
Diaz got his own back a few days later despite the fact McGregor entered their fight a huge favourite and bossed the first round of the UFC 196 main event.
Things quickly fell apart in round two before Diaz rocked him on the feet and tapped him out on the floor to score a monumental upset victory that made him a star in his own right.
An immediate rematch followed, and this time McGregor dropped Diaz several times and survived some tricky moments to bounce back with a majority decision win to tie the series at 1-1.
Six years later, MMA fans are still clamouring for a trilogy fight between the two fight legends but that seems unlikely with McGregor currently sidelined due to injury and Diaz preparing to leave the UFC after his fight with Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279 this weekend.
Ahead of the final fight on his current UFC deal, Diaz has shown no interest in re-signing with the MMA leader and has launched his own fight promotion that will play a part in making a rumoured fight with YouTuber-turned-boxer, Jake Paul.
‘The Problem Child’ has recently signed to box UFC legend Anderson Silva but on October 29 but don't be surprised if a fight with Diaz is booked later this year.
