Stephen Thompson gets face stitched while Kevin Holland hospitalised with broken hand following Fight of the Year Contender at UFC Orlando

Stephen Thompson and Kevin Holland are a little worse for wear after putting on one of the best MMA fights of 2022 at UFC Orlando.
The welterweight duo met in the latest UFC main event which more than lived up to expectations as they traded blows for 20 minutes at the Amway Center in Florida.
Holland got off to a great start as he wobbled the two-time UFC title challenger with a massive right hand in round one.
However, it was ultimately his demise as he suffered a broken hand during the exchange that troubled him for the rest of the fight.
As the rounds progressed, Thompson began to take over and despite their man being competitive, Holland’s corner decided he'd taken enough damage at the end of round four and threw the towel in.
Wonderboy may have walked away from UFC Orlando with a massive win but he did not emerge unscathed as he required several stitches in his face post-fight.
Holland manged to open up two nasty cuts during their epic fight that former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman - who just happens to be Thompson’s brother-in-law - was on hand video get stitched up backstage.
Thompson came into UFC Orlando fielding questions about his potential retirement after suffering two straight losses against Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns.
Post-fight, the 39-year-old spoke with glee after ending talk of his imminent departure from the sport he loves.
“My last two performances, I lost to grapplers,” Thompson said.
“I wanted to show to the UFC and the fans that Wonderboy’s still here. I feel like I’m 25. I’m still here for the long haul and I’ve still got it.”
After starting his welterweight career with two wins, Holland is now riding a losing streak after being tapped out by Khamzat Chimaev before running into Thompson.
The 30-year-old remains positive, though, and was quick to make light of the hand injury he suffered during his latest fight.
"Hard head brother lol. I broke not one, but three knuckles on it much respect,” he wrote to Thompson on Instagram after his hospital visit.
Wonderboy will now head back into big fights with the welterweight elite, while Holland will have to work his way back into contention after they heal up from what was a truly tough night at the office for both men.
