Jorge Masvidal will finally make his octagon return at UFC 287 this weekend in a career-defining showdown with welterweight rival Gilbert Burns.

‘Gamebred’ has suffered a rapid decline from UFC's posterboy in recent years following a three-fight losing streak.

Masvidal hasn’t fought since slumping to a unanimous decision defeat against Colby Covington last March.

The 38-year-old is without a victory since beating Nate Diaz in 2019 and has slipped down to eleventh in the welterweight rankings.

But his long-term rivalry with current champion Leon Edwards could catapult back into contention should he beat Burns.

'Durinho', meanwhile, is back in the cage two months after submitting Neil Magny at UFC 283 in his native Brazil and will represent a stern test.

Burns vs Masvidal: What has been said?

Edwards admitted ahead of his successful title defence against Kamaru Usman that he has one eye on a potential fight with Masvidal.

He told marvelbet369.com: “That’s a fight I feel needs to happen. Not just for me, but for the fans to see the difference in skillset and everything.

“You know, he’s coming off a three-fight losing streak, it’s difficult to [make that] fight. I would have loved him to have a fight in December or something, get a good, top-five win.

“Then I [would have] fought him in March. I would have pushed Usman back to the summer and fought him in March.”
