New footage shows Conor McGregor call UFC 229 brawl with Khabib Nurmagomedov ‘handbags’ during chat with Dana White

UFC 229 will be remembered as one of the most controversial nights in MMA history – but Conor McGregor doesn’t see what all the fuss is about.
Khabib Nurmagomedov scored a fourth-round submission win to seemingly settle his rivalry with ‘Notorious’ at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on October 6, 2018.
However, ‘The Eagle’ was not done fighting and flew over the Octagon to confront a member of McGregor’s team - Dillon Danis - before a mass brawl broke out.
The former dual-weight champion picked himself off the floor and began fighting with members of Nurmagomedov’s entourage in ugly scenes that summed up their bitter rivalry.
When the dust had settled, UFC president Dana White headed back to McGregor’s dressing room and showed concern for his biggest star who had found himself in two fights in one night.
“Are you alright? I mean, after the shots you took when the kid jumped in,” White asked.
McGregor shook off the concerns from his boss, replying: “I don’t give a f*** about that. I don’t give a b******s about that, that was handbags.”
The MMA mogul, still shocked by the conclusion of UFC 229, continued to talk about the post-fight events but the Irishman was more worried about the fact he had just lost against his biggest rival.
White said: “I didn’t see Khabib jumping over. I didn’t see that coming.”
McGregor interjected: “Who cares about that? That was handbags. I was beat, and that’s that. I was beat where it mattered, and that’s it. End of. Who cares about any of the other s***?”
An awkward silence followed before White shook the hand of his biggest star, offered him some kind words, and made his exit.
Both Nurmagomedov and McGregor were hit with lengthy bans and hefty fines for their post-fight brawl which only made them bigger stars.
The Russian wrestler ultimately retired in 2020 after stretching his perfect record to 29-0 with a second-round technical submission win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.
McGregor got back in the win column against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in his next fight but has since suffered back-to-back defeats against another rival, Dustin Poirier.
The 34-year-old fractured his tibia and fibula against ‘The Diamond’ at UFC 264 in July 2021 and has been out of action ever since.
McGregor will return to the Octagon later this year when he takes on Michael Chandler before targeting a shot at Leon Edwards’ welterweight title.
