UFC 205 news: Conor McGregor says he has no plans to vacate any titles ahead of Eddie Alvarez fight

UFC 205 news

UFC featherweight king Conor McGregor has no plans to vacate any titles, insisting he will “defend them both” if he adds lightweight gold to his collection at UFC 205.

The Notorious One faces lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in Madison Square Garden on 12 November and in recent months has been under increasing pressure from the UFC top brass to vacate the featherweight title or, if he beats Alvarez, the lightweight belt.

McGregor seems to have other plans, though, refusing to even consider the thought of relinquishing either, telling everyone at a UFC 205 press conference in September the promotion will “need a f*****g army” in order to take one of the belts away from him.

And now once again the Irishman is standing his ground on the matter. “Vacate? I dunno, we’ll see about that,” he said in a media call.

“I mean, why not defend them both? I fight every week, I only fought last week, so I can defend them both.”

Or will he? If you’ve been locked on the talkSPORT UFC news feed, you’ll have noticed a lot of rumours have been doing the rounds regarding McGregor’s future.

Since his last fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in August, McGregor said he is ready to make a big announcement at UFC 205, an announcement many are saying will be along the lines of the 28-year-old taking a break from the sport, in the same way Ronda Rousey did after losing to Holly Holm last year.

Whatever happens, there’s sure to be some belated fireworks in New York.
