Sean O’Malley posts footage of him practising KO blow that turned him into UFC’s newest champion

Sean O’Malley knew exactly what shot he wanted to land at UFC 292.
‘Suga’ recently shared footage of him hitting pads with his coach, Tim Welch, moments before he upset Aljamain Sterling at Boston’s TD Garden on Saturday night.
It shows the 28-year-old throwing an overhand right as his trainer pretends to be Sterling who was expected to ultilse his wrestling to win the fight.
The video quickly jumped to the fight-ending sequence that shows O’Malley landing the exact punch he was working on during his warm-up.
A flurry of follow-up shots forced veteran referee Marc Goddard to wave off UFC 292 main event and make O’Malley the new bantamweight champion of MMA’s best league.
As the 17-1 UFC titleholder was celebrating his win, fans started comparing the punch he landed on Sterling to the one Conor McGregor used to end his rivalry with Jose Aldo in 2015.
‘Notorious’ caught the long-time featherweight king early and put him to sleep with a counter left-hand to end their UFC 194 fight in just 13 seconds.
Coincidentally, a video showing McGregor practising the shot backstage before the fight was later shared on social media and only added to what was a truly historic finish.
O’Malley hopes to emulate ‘Mystic Mac’ by crossing over to boxing.
During his post-fight press conference, the UFC champion expressed his desire to square off against 29-0 knockout artist Gervonta Davis.
‘Tank’ is fresh off a seventh-round stoppage win over Ryan Garcia who quickly took to social media to advise O’Malley against trying his luck in a new sport.
However, he was unaware that O’Malley does have some boxing experience.
In 2016, the American picked up a first-round TKO win over David Courtney, who had a 1-2 record at the time but retired with three victories and nine defeats two years later.
While he likes the idea of a scrap with Davis, it’s much more likely the king of the UFC’s 135lb division will defend his title against Marlon Vera later this year.
‘Chito’ is the only man to beat O’Malley and was the first name that came to mind when Joe Rogan asked the new champion about future opponents during their post-fight interview.
It’s likely they’ll headline UFC 296 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on December 16.
