UFC suspend Jon Jones for one year thanks to his team-mate

UFC fighter Jon Jones

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon 'Bones' Jones has been officially suspended from fighting for the promotion for one year.

The ruling comes after Jones had his United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) case heard by three arbitrators from McLaren Global Sports Solutions on Monday, who gave the former champion the full sanction, which will ban the fighter from stepping into a UFC cage until July 2017.

Jones (22-1) claimed he had taken a contaminated performance enhancing sex pill, confirmed by USADA, and was not at fault, however the arbitrators have disagreed saying Jones didn’t do his due-diligence in determining if he was within the UFC anti-doping guidelines.

It has also been noted that Jones got the pill from a team-mate, who has not yet been disclosed.

The current interim light heavyweight champion tested positive for two banned substances called clomiphene and letrozole in an out-of-competition drug test back in June, prior to UFC 200, when Jones was set to fight Daniel Cormier in the main event.

And that’s not all, as the American could also face a fine and suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) to add to his misery.
