Tom Aspinall issues cheeky four-word response to Jon Jones fuming about UFC belt request

British MMA star Tom Aspinall has issued a sarcastic apology after upsetting one of the sport's greatest legends, Jon Jones.
Aspinall quickly knocked out streaking Russian contender Sergei Pavlovich in a short-notice interim heavyweight title fight at UFC 295 next month.
The eagerly anticipated clash between two exciting prospects came to fruition when Jones, who holds the UFC’s heavyweight title, withdrew from his scheduled fight with former champion Stipe Miocic due to injury.
‘Bones’ is expected to be out for the best part of a year, but UFC CEO Dana White insists he will fight Miocic before Aspinall can unify the division.
‘The Honey Badger’ recently made his feelings about the situation clear.
“I think Jon Jones should be stripped from the title, to be honest, because everyone else does when they get injured like that,” Aspinall said during an .
“I don’t see why he’s still got it, I don’t understand that. I should be the real champion right now.”
On Monday, Jones took to social media to respond to Aspinall’s request, defend his legacy and take indirect shots at the man trying to take his heavyweight belt.
"I’ve faced the absolute toughest competition this world had to offer for 15 years now,” he tweeted.
“During camp for a title defence I sustained a major injury that required surgery for the first time in my career. Now I have newcomers requesting I get my championship stripped.
"Zero wins over legends, zero title defenses and already thinking you can call the shots to Dana, that’s hilarious.
“In my 15 year career I have seen so many guys who are supposed to be the next big thing. There’s ever only been one Jon Jones, never forget that."
Rather than get into an online war of words with Jones, Aspinall replied to the American’s rant by issuing a seemingly sarcastic apology.
Aspinall replied: “You’re right. Sorry Jon"
It’s currently unclear if Aspinall will defend his newly acquired title or sit out and wait to unify the belts against whoever wins when Jones vs Miocic finally takes place.
Either way, he's got the world at his feet after following in the footsteps of Bisping and Leon Edwards by becoming a UK UFC champion.
