Tom Aspinall issues classy response after Jon Jones brutally dissects his UFC career amid calls for heavyweight unification fight

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is growing tired of Tom Aspinall calling him out, but the Englishman insists it’s all about respect.
‘Bones’ was supposed to defend his belt against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in November before he got injured and they were both pulled from the card.
Aspinall stepped in on short notice, knocked out streaking Russian contender Sergei Pavlovich to win the interim heavyweight championship and become the third British UFC titleholder in history.
Since then, he’s been calling for a unification fight with Jones when he returns from injury and has offered to face Miocic in the meantime – but both men are dead set on fighting each other first.
Frustrated by a relative newcomer repeatedly calling him out, the two-weight UFC champion took to social media and ripped into Aspinall’s record.
“Only four recognisable opponents, and already the king of England, must be nice. There will be legendary tales told about you and your infamous call outs,” he on Tuesday morning.
“I was a champion when I was 23 years old, you can’t show up at age 30 pretending like you’ve been chasing me your whole life. I have no clue who 90 per cent of his résumé is, meanwhile, I’ve been highlighting UFC events my entire career.
“It’s a wild world we live in! People can be so quick to try to replace you, throw you away, discredit your work. That’s the best thing about them stats or just being able to see the fruits of your labor.
“Be an absolute savage at what you do, at whatever capacity that may be. Let the work speak for itself, be undeniable in this world ladies and gentlemen. Be absolutely undeniable.”
Aspinall soon found out he had triggered a social media rant from Jones, and responded by giving the consensus best fighter in MMA history all the respect he craves.
‘The Honey Badger’ insisted he wants to test himself against the best.
“Jon you’re letting your ego run wild here mate. I’m not downplaying you’re résumé, it’s incredible. Far superior to mine,” Aspinall replied.
“You are known as the best fighter ever, and that’s EXACTLY why I want to beat you. Surely you can understand that?”
Aspinall didn’t get a response, so he joked about his predicament.
He wrote: “Jon Jones: “you need to fight people who build your legacy” Me: “great idea. Absolutely” UFC: “do you wanna fight Tom?” Stipe: “no” Jon: “no” Me: (thinking emoji) “
Aspinall must soon decide if he wants to continue pursuing two legends who have no interest in fighting him this year or agree to defend his interim title against a heavyweight contender.
