UFC star Paddy Pimblett has taken a moment to reflect on how far he’s come in such a short space of time.

‘The Baddy’ suffered a few setbacks and spent years building a name for himself on the regional scene before finally earning a call-up to the UFC in 2021.

Five wins later, Pimblett is one of the biggest stars on the roster after amassing a slew of new fans thanks to his entertaining fighting style and charismatic personality.

The 29-year-old picked up the most significant victory of his career when he wobbled, dropped, and outpointed former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 296 in December.

A few months later, Pimblett has realised the significance of beating a UFC legend he aspired to be like during his days competing under the Cage Warriors banner.

The popular Liverpudlian was just glad to get a nice message from Ferguson when footage from his flying triangle submission win over Alexis Savvidis went viral six years ago.

“Very noiiiiice!!!! Props, good job kid,” Ferguson tweeted in 2018.

Of course, Pimblett reposted the surprise praise at the time, and now he’s shared it again on Instagram alongside a caption that reflects on how far he’s come.

“Crazy to think 6 years ago Tony was giving me props for my flying triangle finish on Cage Warriors,” he wrote.

“Fast forward to now and his name is a green W ✅ on my record… how time flies.”

Pimblett hasn’t fought since beating Ferguson and doesn’t have a fight booked as his wife is due to give birth to twin girls in May.

The Englishman will enjoy becoming a father for the first time before booking his next UFC fight, which will surely see him face a ranked opponent and officially begin his lightweight title charge.

Ferguson refuses to retire despite being on a lengthy losing streak.

The 40-year-old picked up a record-setting 12 wins in a row, but failed to become undisputed UFC champion before suffering seven consecutive defeats in the Octagon.

“I’m going to fight until the wheels fall off. F*** retiring,” he said in February.

Ferguson is also without a date or opponent for his next bout, and it’s currently unclear if UFC CEO Dana White will let him compete in MMA’s premier promotion again.
