Conor McGregor is backing Bayer Leverkusen to take their exceptional season to the next level on Wednesday evening.

Xabi Alonso’s side have already won the Bundesliga and done so in sensational fashion by going 34 games without defeat to complete an invincible league campaign.

The German side are also unbeaten in the DFB-Pokal and Europa League, which they will try to win at the 51,700-seater Aviva Stadium in Dublin tomorrow night.

McGregor is thought to be a big football fan and has even spoken about investing in several high-profile clubs over the years – but he doesn’t seem to have kept up with the sport this season.

The 35-year-old was recently caught off-guard by the fact the Europa League final is taking place in his hometown.

McGregor said while streaming on KICK for Duelbits: “The Europa League final is in Dublin? Is it? At the Aviva [Stadium]? Is the final set?"

A man sitting next to the UFC superstar told him Leverkusen will face Atalanta in the final, but McGregor didn’t seem to be familiar with either of the teams.

However, that didn’t stop him from placing a massive $50,000 bet on the game.

He added: “Atalanta, where are they from?

“And Bayer Leverkusen is Germany? I’ll go Bayer Leverkusen.

“We’ll put 10 grand on Bayer Leverkusen. The reason being - I love Italy, of course - but we had a German lad on [the chat] asking about Forged Irish Stout.

“Put 50 grand on it. That’s for the German guy who was asking about Proper 12 and Forged Irish Stout. I’m after betting on your guys’ team, Bayer Leverkusen.”

UFC star Conor McGregor roasts Khabib Nurmagomedov, Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman, Ilia Topuria and many more more during his streaming debut

When he wasn’t placing big bets, McGregor was ripping into some of his UFC colleagues, including Khabib Nurmagomedov and Leon Edwards, during his first livestream.

‘Notorious’ also provided fans with an update on his ongoing comeback camp after announcing that he is giving up alcohol until after his fight with Michael Chandler.

They’ll square off in the main event of UFC 303 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on June 29.

The winner will move on to potential title shots, but the loser's career competing against the very best fighters will most probably be over.

McGregor is currently doing every he can to keep his dream of becoming the UFC's first three-weight world champion alive.
