Conor McGregor is currently healing up after breaking his toe.

‘Notorious’ was supposed to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29, but Dana White called off the bout last week and claimed his biggest star is injured.

Soon after, McGregor confirmed he was unfit to fight in a social media statement that fuelled speculation as it didn’t specify what the injury was or how long it would keep him out.

On Friday, the former dual-weight UFC champion finally confirmed that he suffered a broken toe during a sparring session that went badly wrong.

McGregor wrote on : “Man we were so f****** super ready for this fight it is absolutely gut-wrenching to take.

“I want that new Bugatti how I gone [sic] justify to myself getting that now without banking these fights.

“We had a lapse in concentration and engaged in a training session without wearing the full protective gear and I hit the toe off the elbow and broke the toe clean. It needs a few weeks that’s it.

“I couldn’t justify to my team, or fans, that I make the walk hindered again. That walk has been seen. This next walk has got to be, and it will be, 100 per cent Conor McGregor. The fans deserve it and we are getting close.

“A slight lapse in concentration and a nuisance of an injury was picked up. That’s it. Take the lesson and move forward. I will get this back. I’ve got to. I’ve got two fights left on my contract.

“I’ve got Bugattis and more yachts on my mind. I’m coming to shine. I gotta just take my time. Cos I still got yachts and Bentleys and mansions and all the rest. Ya know yaself [sic]. But ya get me, I’ll be back.

“See ya’s soon. See ya at the top. Chandler or not. #McGTheRealBMF #McGregorForever #GoingNowhere”

McGregor followed up that post with another on – formerly known as Twitter – where he shared pictures of his broken toe and the X-ray that confirmed it with a message to Chael Sonnen.

The MMA legend wrongly claimed that McGregor’s UFC 303 withdrawal was due to a rehab stint for drug and alcohol abuse.

He added the caption: “Chael shut your pie hole, hoe. You tap from ground and pound.”

McGregor hasn’t fought since breaking his leg during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

It’s hoped that his latest injury won’t keep him on the sidelines for too much longer.

Peter Queally, one of his long-time teammates, recently told talkSPORT MMA that the plan is for McGregor and Chandler to fight later this year.

"It seems like they will endeavour to make that fight in September time," he said.

"Something like that maybe. That’s what I’m hearing.

“That’s what you can look forward to if they can make it happen.”
