Conor McGregor finds one conspiracy theory about Tony Ferguson particularly amusing.

The former interim lightweight champion suffered a first-round submission defeat to Michael Chiesa at UFC Abu Dhabi on Saturday night.

In doing so, Ferguson set an unwanted UFC record by stretching his losing streak to eight, which is more than anyone else has ever curated in MMA’s premier promotion.

Welterweight veteran Matt Brown, who recently retired to the sport, has since shared his thoughts on why ‘El Cucuy’ refuses to walk away from fighting.

‘The Immortal’ thinks Ferguson is addicted to the feeling of competing.

“Look, when you lose eight in a row, it doesn’t matter where you’re at in your career — that’s pretty much OK, you should probably call it quits,” Brown said on

“Something isn’t right. Whatever it is. If you lost your first eight or you lost your last eight.

“The problem is he had so many wins, he was interim champion, on like a 12-fight winning streak back in the day. So he’s like a cocaine addict trying to reach that high again.

“When you get eight [losses], it doesn’t matter. If he had lost eight fights in a row at the beginning of his career, his first eight fights, he would have quit most likely. He would have been like ‘Well this definitely isn’t the sport for me, I lost eight fights in a row.’

“But because he’s already had that high, he’s thinking I can get back to that.”

“It’s like cocaine. It really is. That’s what walking into an octagon and beating another man’s ass [feels like], especially the way Tony did where he just f***ing ripped people’s souls out of their bodies.

“That is a high you cannot get anywhere else, in any other way. But you can’t chase that. You’ve got to accept that was the season of your life, and it’s time to move onto a new season.”

A video of Brown’s thoughts on the situation quickly began circulating on social media and it wasn’t long until McGregor stumbled across it.

‘Notorious’ didn’t appear to agree with its content as he shared it with his 10.6million X followers and added a crying laughing emoji to show of he felt about Brown’s theory.

The 36-year-old has lost two consecutive bouts, and three of the four MMA fights he’s had since becoming the UFC’s first dual-weight champion in 2016.

McGregor is expected to return from a three-year injury layoff against Michael Chandler, but exactly when their fight will take place remains a mystery.

UFC CEO Dana White is expected to make an announcement soon.
