Jon Jones told UFC fans that he will 'give them the fight they want to see' after knocking out Stipe Miocic.

The former UFC heavyweight champion looked like a shadow of his former self as he was stopped in the third round by a sickening spinning back-kick to the body.

Miocic had been out of action since being knocked out by Francis Ngannou in 2021 and looked every one of his 42 years as he attempted to reclaim his belt.

The speed difference was apparent as Jones beat up Miocic on the feet and on the ground.

Most UFC fans expected the fight to go exactly the way it did and didn't want to see it in the first place.

Instead, the contest members of the MMA fraternity were calling for was one against interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, who has cleared out the entire division during his charge to the top.

Jones has shown little interest in fighting Aspinall and even suggested he would rather retire than fight the Brit.

However, 'Bones' chose not to hang up his gloves after the UFC 309 main event and delivered a cryptic message to a packed-out Madison Square Garden.

"As far as my future in the Octagon, I decided that maybe I will not retire," the UFC heavyweight champion said in the immediate aftermath

"I have some conversations to have with Dana and Hunter and if everything goes right maybe we will give you guys what you want to see."

Pressed by Joe Rogan on who he wants to face next, Jones replied: "I know that we have options and so I'm going to see what Uncle Dana and Uncle Hunter want. You will hear about it soon I'm sure."

Jones could, of course, be referring to a super fight with light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, which he has talked up during fight week.

But he will be aware that the clash everyone wants to see is with Aspinall, who was cage side in New York.

Jones evaded questions on Aspinall during the lead-up to his fight with Miocic, even walking out of a TNT interview with Adam Catterall to avoid being grilled on the matter.

"Hey I'm not going to do this interview," Jones said as he headed for the exit after shaking hands with Catterall.

"Because It's going to be an Aspinall fest. I'm not going to do it."

Catterall, who also works for talkSPORT, co-hosts a show with Aspinall for TNT and has been very critical about Jones not fighting his clear No.1 contender.

"The arguments that I've been making and arguing throughout fight week would have happened in the interview if we would have had the conversation," Catterall told talkSPORT Drive.

"[He says] 'What has Tom Aspinall done?' That's Jon's basic first line of answer.

"Well, he's been five of the top 10 guys. He's the interim champion. He's won eight fights in the UFC, he's finished every single one of them and he's done seven of them in the first round.

"It's ridiculous. If you compare that to when Jon became champion back in 2011 it blows Jon's numbers out of the water.

"So he's done more than enough to earn that opportunity. The reason Jon that Jon does not want to fight Tom Aspinall, and I have no problem saying to you and Jon's face is that he doesn't fully believe he can beat him.

"And at this stage in his life and his career, Jon's an undefeated fighter, and he wants to protect that legacy. He doesn't want to fight the next best guy. It's as simple as that."

Whether Jones will face Aspinall next is yet to be seen but the entire MMA world will have their fingers crossed.
