Floyd Mayweather applying for MMA license and will train for 'six to eight months' ahead of UFC fight with Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has revealed he is applying for an MMA license, and wants ‘six to eight months’ to train before a re-match with Conor McGregor.

‘Money’ defeated the Irishman in a boxing match back in August 2017, the 50th victory of his career, and immediately retired.

However, it now seems as though he is serious about a rematch with McGregor inside of an octagon.

The 41-year-old claimed he would be open fighting in the UFC, even teasing videos of himself training in an octagon, but many dismissed it as merely hype.

However, Mayweather’s comments to TMZ Sports suggest the hype is real.

“Everything takes time,” he said.

“Eventually, we're gonna apply for the license, and hopefully we can fight.

“Even if it takes six to eight months, whatever it takes.

“We want to make sure that everything is done correctly, and everything is done the right way.”

Conor 'Notorious' McGregor stunned fight fans around the world when he crossed codes and stepped into the squared circle with the undefeated boxer, eventually succumbing to a tenth-round TKO loss.

Mayweather has admitted he would be interested in working with UFC Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley ahead of any professional debut, in order to work on his wrestling and grappling games.
