Jon Jones responds to Kurt Angle’s claim that Brock Lesnar would only make UFC return to fight him

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle opened up a can of worms when he appeared on the Ariel Helwani show on Monday evening.

Angle is an Olympic gold medallist and former NCAA Division 1 wrestling champion; he had all the credentials to be a top MMA star, but chose professional wrestling instead.

Brock Lesnar was also an NCAA Division 1 champion and won the UFC heavyweight title once upon a time. However, despite constant rumours he is to return to the UFC, Lesnar has only fought once inside the octagon since returning to WWE in 2012.

A fight with Daniel Cormier for the UFC heavyweight title fell through earlier this year leading to UFC president Dana White revealing the 'Beast Incarnate' had retired from MMA.

However, according to Angle, Lesnar told him the one fight he'd come back to UFC for is a bout with Jon Jones.

“I know he said that he’s retired," Angle told Helwani.

“The one fight he wants, and I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen, but he wants to go up against Jon Jones.”

Jones wasted little time answering Angle's claims on both Instagram and Twitter.

“He knows that’s what his friends want to hear, but he doesn’t really want this fight. Trust me," Jones stated.

"Brock is way too slow, I’ll embarrass him."

Will the fight ever happen? At 42 years old, not only is Lesnar's athletic window closing, but the lust for the fight goes with it.

Jones has resisted every idea to move up from 205lbs thus far, but there is no doubt a lucrative date with Lesnar might be the most tempting offer of all.
