Justin Gaethje slams Conor McGregor vs Donald Cerrone fight
Gaethje has branded McGregor’s comeback fight with Donald Cerrone ‘a freak show’.
The Notorious will make his mixed martial arts return when he takes on Cerrone at UFC 246 on January 18.
It will be McGregor’s first fight since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.
Gaethje, who was a potential opponent for McGregor, does not seem happy about the Irishman’s match-up with Cerrone.
He told SiriusXM: “I mean, it’s a freak show man. I don’t know what to make of it.
“For me, I think it’s good, it takes [McGregor] out of the picture. It kind of clears the path to what needs to happen.
"Fighting at 170 [pounds] - I don’t know how in his mind he can say ‘I’ll fight in 170 and then fight for the world title next.’
“I’d like to think it is because he doesn’t want to fight me, but I don’t think I’m that scary. I don’t understand it.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov has ‘fire burning inside again’ for Tony Ferguson clash
Nurmagomedov has revealed he ‘lacked motivation’ for his previous fights.
The undefeated UFC lightweight champion, who includes McGregor among his list of scalps, takes on Ferguson, who has not lost in his previous 12 fights, on April 18 in Brooklyn.
Nurmagomedov said: “I will train hard. With every fight, I gain more and more experience. I’m getting older, I’m 31. I think it’s the peak age of a fighter’s career.
“Of course, I will train more for this fight because I have a worthy opponent. He’s a very good and very dangerous opponent.
“To be honest, I lacked this motivation for my last fights. [Al] Iaquinta, Conor, [Edson] Barboza, [Dustin] Poirier. They’re not the same as Tony Ferguson.
“That’s why I feel that fire burning inside me again.”
Alberto ‘El Patron’ Rodriguez vows to reitre Tito Ortiz
Rodriguez, formerly known as Alberto Del Rio during his WWE days, is set to take on Ortiz in the Combate Americas pay-per-view on Saturday.
And he wants to retire former UFC champion Ortiz.
Rodriguez, whose mixed martial arts record is 9-5, said: “We started looking for opponents because my one condition only was I wanted to face someone important.
“Someone relevant, someone with a name, because based on my position in the company I could have faced anyone, but I wanted something with meaning.
“I’m ready to end his [Ortiz] career because he’s going to have to retire after this fight.”
