Conor McGregor coach John Kavanagh says ‘this is the best I’ve ever seen him’ ahead of Donald Cerrone UFC 246 clash

UFC's box office sensation, Conor McGregor, returns to the octagon for the first time in nearly 15 months in January to fight Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone at UFC 246.

The Irishman is the MMA promotion's biggest draw, having featured in five of the six best-selling pay-per-views in UFC's history.

In Cerrone, fans are excited to see the 31-year-old paired with another striker who loves to fight.

The McGregor camp are days away from flying to Vegas and had their final big sparring session with head coach, John Kavanagh believing this is the best version of the former 'champ-champ' he has ever seen.

He tweeted: “Jan 1st, last heavy spar today before going to Vegas. Can honestly say this is the best I’ve seen him and I wasn’t sure that was possible to do six months ago.

“You guys are in for a real treat, I’m just glad to have a good seat!”

McGregor is aiming to fight three times in 2020 and his move to welterweight is designed to help him do that. With less weight cuts to worry about, McGregor can focus on training and fighting.

Providing he wins a shoot-out with Cerrone, McGregor reportedly wants to fight Jorge Masvidal next.

UFC president Dana White doesn't think that is a very good idea, but he does like the sound of a Khabib Nurmagomedov/McGregor rematch towards the end of 2020, even if Khabib doesn't.

The Notorious is set for a big 2020, but it all starts with Cerrone on January 18 and Cowboy is not to be underestimated.
