Maycee Barber tears ACL on McGregor vs Cowboy card and fights on before sharing emotional moment with her mother after UFC 246 loss to Roxanne Modafferi
Maycee Barber shared a tender moment with her mother as she left the T-Mobile Arena bloodied and battered.
Roxanne Modifferi secured a stunning upset victory in their UFC 246 clash against the 21-year-old tipped to break Jon Jones’ championship record.
But Barber was left in clear discomfort when she sustained a suspected torn ACL and a nasty gash to her face.
The flyweight clash was enthralling from start to finish ahead of the Conor McGregor vs Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone main event.
Although ‘The Future’ was allowed to continue after being checked by the doctor, Modafferi was able to cruise to a wide unanimous points victory.
As teammate Ben Askren helped her from the arena, Barber spotted her mother in the Las Vegas crowd.
And the cameras captured the heart-breaking moment the starlet allowed her emotions to get the better of her.
In the immediate aftermath of the decision, Barber refused to let her injuries detract from what was a sensational performance by her veteran opponent.
Barber was just five years old when Modafferi made her pro MMA debut and the pair acknowledged the competitive nature of the bout.
Barber said: “It's an honour to share the octagon with Roxanne she has been doing MMA since I was just five years old.”
Modaferri said: “I wish Maycee a speedy recovery as her leg looks damaged. I wanted to prove I am not just a veteran gatekeeper.
“I have been training very hard and I hope to get better and better. She cried out about her knee but in this arena you have to be ruthless.”
