UFC 200: Conor McGregor withdrawn from Diaz fight after retirement tweet

Conor McGregor will not be fighting at UFC 200, Dana White, the promotion’s president confirmed.

The Dubliner was due in Las Vegas to promote his mega fight against Nate Diaz on 9 July, but news of his withdrawal comes off the back of a tweet in which the featherweight champions said he was retiring.

“Conor did not want to come to Las Vegas and film the commercial or be a part of any of the marketing we have," White said. "He's in Iceland training and that's not possible.”

In 2011, Nate’s brother Nick didn’t show up for a press conference ahead of his fight at UFC 137 with Georges St-Pierre and the older Diaz sibling was pulled from the fight.

When asked about McGregor’s future, White said the UFC still has a good relationship with the 27-year-old, adding: "I respect Conor as a fighter and I like him as a person. But you can't decide not to show up to these things. You have to do it."
