Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez’s career in WWE looks to be over after just ONE match

Cain Velasquez has reportedly been released by WWE.

The two-time UFC heavyweight champion signed a multi-year contract with WWE last October.

He has only wrestled once for Vince McMahon’s company when he lost a WWE Championship match against Brock Lesnar after just three minutes at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.

And the say WWE have parted ways with Velasquez.

While former UFC stars such as Lesnar and Ronda Rousey made successful transitions into wrestling, Velasquez failed to leave his mark.

Earlier this month, WWE released several wrestlers and backstage staff, including Kurt Angle and Rusev, due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

At the time, they announced savings of more than £3million with the latest cuts.

The company said: “Due to COVID-19 and current government mandated impacts on WWE and the media business generally, the Company went through an extensive evaluation of its operations over the past several weeks.

“The Company’s reductions of employee compensation and headcount result in an estimated monthly savings of £3.2m along with cash flow improvement of £110m primarily from the deferral in spending on the Company’s new headquarters.
