Cody Stamann fought back tears during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan at UFC 250 when discussing the recent death of his 18-year-old brother.

The UFC featherweight was considering pulling out of the bout against Brian Kelleher following the sudden passing of his brother, Jacob, on May 27.

Although Jacob Stamann's cause of death has not been confirmed, his elder brother knew he had to fight at the UFC Apex on Saturday night to honour the wrestler's memory.

Stamann delivered a composed performance against Keller to claim a unanimous victory, before almost breaking down as soon as the horn sounded to signal the end of the fight.

Speaking to Rogan following the conclusion of the bout whilst maintaining social distancing, Stamann delivered one of the more emotional interviews of recent memory.
Stamann said: “It’s been hard. It’s been real hard. I’ve been fighting tears all day, just trying to hold everything together.

"It’s just a hard time for me. I had to buckle up and be a man and get this done for him, for my family, for myself. Brian Kelleher, thanks so much for coming out and doing it tonight.”

Rogan, who became teary-eyed, replied: “Thank you for coming in here and performing the way you did. Thank you for your incredible display of character. We appreciate you.

"Our condolences to your family, and thank you for everything.”
