Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jake Paul both took a pop at Conor McGregor after he was stopped by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.

McGregor had beaten Poirier inside two minutes in September 2014 and was the overwhelming favourite to do the double in the lightweight bout on Fight Island last weekend.

But Poirier survived some cagey moments in the first round and began to gain the ascendancy with some savage leg kicks in the second before a flurry of punches sent McGregor down to the canvas.

Poirier followed up with a couple of vicious blows on a defenceless McGregor, leading referee Herb Dean to wave off the fight after just two minutes and 32 seconds of the second round.

Khabib wanted to see something ‘spectacular’ if he was to come out of retirement to face McGregor, but it appears as though the chances of seeing him take on the Irishman in a rematch are now officially done.

And the Russian took a dig at McGregor on social media after the loss, criticising his preparations.

He wrote on Twitter: “This is what happened, when you change your team, leave the sparring partners who made you a champion and sparring with little kids, far away from reality.”

YouTuber Paul, meanwhile, has continually pressed McGregor for a boxing bout and made him a $50million offer to fight at the end of last year.

But he has now told McGregor he will only offer him $10,000 now.

In an hysterical video posted on his YouTube channel - which has more than 20million subscribers - Paul said: "Conor, dude, you got paid $5million to fight a bum.

"You should have taken the Jake Paul fight for $50million, but now I got $10,000 for you. I got 10,000 dollars cash, cold-hard cash. … Or I’ll give you a third of a Bitcoin. You choose, you choose, Conor McGregor.”

Paul also posted a similar message on his Twitter account, which has 3.8million followers.

Meanwhile, McGregor was gracious in defeat as he praised the victor Poirier.

He said: "That low calf kick was very good, my leg was dead and then I wasn't just as comfortable as I needed to be. It's inactivity and that's it. Dustin's some fighter.

"If you put in the time in here, you're going to get cosy in here and I just have to dust it off and come back and that's what I will do. I need activity, you don't get away with being inactive in this business.

"I'll take my licks. I'm gutted and I put so much work in. Well done Dustin: 1-1, good man. It's a tough one to swallow, I put in a lot of work, I'm proud of my work. We'll get to go again and that's it."
