Nate Diaz has confirmed he is back in training and wants to fight Dustin Poirier after he knocked out Conor McGregor.

‘The Diamond’ claimed revenge on McGregor for inflicting his first ever knockout defeat at UFC 178 by returning the favour.

After chopping and scything away at McGregor’s right leg, Poirier found himself in a shootout with the biggest name in combat sports today.

In the end, with McGregor practically lame and taking damage, the Lafayette-native landed the telling blows on ‘The Notorious’ to leave referee Herb Dean with no choice but to step in.

In the immediate aftermath of the bout, when asked who was next, Poirier admitted Michael Chandler did not interest him – but a bout with one half of Stockton’s finest perhaps did.

“A rematch with Conor interests me,” Poirier said. “Always wanted to whoop Nate Diaz's a**. That interests me. I'm sure something will make sense. But just now, I don't know.

“Me and Conor are 1-1. Nate Diaz got away and likes to talk a lot of s*** online.

“I can guarantee I'm not fighting Michael Chandler. They can do whatever they want with the division.”

Immediately, Diaz took to Twitter himself and wrote: “I’m training to whoop ur [sic] ass next. Be about it don’t talk about it.”

The 35-year-old also found time to Tweet about his former rival McGregor after the knockout defeat as he wrote, ‘These guys all get finished all the time.’

Diaz has not fought since taking on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 in New York City back in 2019, with the fight getting stopped on account of several deep lacerations above his right eye.

Poirier and Diaz were scheduled to face one another in the main event of UFC 230, with Poirier calling his rival ‘hard to deal with’.

“They wanted to switch it to five rounds, man, it was just so messed up dude,” Poirier told in October 2018.

“Nate was being hard to deal with, I believe. Every weight class they offered it at 155 and he wanted 160 and I agreed to that. He kind of negotiated himself out of a main-event spot.

“They offered us the main event, I accepted, Nate over-negotiated, they lost the main event, it was just back-to-back days of him trying to have his way, honestly.”
