Jorge Masvidal says he is ‘a fan’ of the ‘beautiful’ way Kamaru Usman knocked him out

Jorge Masvidal was certain he was going to win the UFC welterweight title prior to clashing with Kamaru Usman at UFC 261.

Gamebred had even claimed that Usman had the softest punches he’d ever felt. He’s certainly not saying that now.

Usman knocked Masvidal out cold in the second round with a stunning right hand to the chin to retain his championship.

After the defeat, Masvidal was all class inside the octagon. The two previously heated rivals acknowledged the respect they have for each other and Masvidal told Joe Rogan the champion beat him ‘fair and square’.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani this week, Street Jesus said he was a fan of the way Usman knocked him out and called it ‘beautiful’.

“I thought he was going in for a shot and when I realized it wasn’t a shot, it was too late. I was throwing my check left hook but it was already too late. I read the information wrong.

“So he sold it to me beautifully and that’s why he got those results. Gosh. Of that moment right there, I am a fan. Because I love the sport so much. It’s just beautiful technique.”

Usman came towards Masvidal and used his left hand to create the space to bring his right hand over the top. While Masvidal was dealing with the left, it was already too late.

In the same interview, Masvidal suggested he would be happy to face Nick Diaz later this year.

UFC president Dana White revealed Diaz was in attendance at UFC 261 and they were to talk about getting him his first fight in six years after the show.

Khamzat Chimaev has thrown his name in the hat, but the lure of having Nick try and avenge brother Nate Diaz’s loss to Masvidal for the BMF belt is a much bigger fight in virtually anyone’s eyes.

Usman has cleared the line at welterweight, but Colby Covington was in attendance for the Masvidal fight and seems to be UFC’s pick to face the champion next.

Covington is the man that ran Usman closest when they met, but Leon Edwards could get himself the shot if he defeats Nate Diaz at UFC 262.
