Danny Roberts returned to UFC action with a win and a freshly stitched scar on his head in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Croydon-born Roberts managed to gain a narrow split-decision victory against Ramazen Emeev on the preliminary card at the UFC Apex.
Over the course of three gruelling rounds, it was ‘Hot Chocolate’ who emerged with the victory via a split decision, although the scorecards may have been contentious.
The talking point before the judges’ scores were read out, however, was the cut sustained by Roberts above his hairline after a seemingly innocuous elbow.
The Brit ate the elbow with consummate ease, but concern must have spread throughout his corner team as blood began to flow.
Thankfully, he held on for a vital victory, but UFC president Dana White took to Instagram to show off the graphic nature of the injury and the stitches it required.
The 34-year-old admitted he was perplexed at the scoring, but delighted to have got the win having not fought since 2019 due to complications surrounding injuries and COVID-19.
He told reporters after the fight: “I thought that was a bit of a strange score, I’m not going to lie! I don’t know what fight they were watching.
“If it had been a little bit closer, I still would have known it would have been mine but when I heard that 30-27, I was a bit like, ‘Hang on, who has given it to what way here?’
“I’m just grateful that they’ve seen what I felt and then what everyone else would have seen as well.”
