Exclusive – Stewart: F1 title race is not finished

Sir Jackie Stewart has told talkSPORT this season’s title race is not over – insisting Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton can still catch Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel’s second place at an action-packed British Grand Prix on Sunday has left both Button and Hamilton 95 points adrift of the Red Bull ace with ten races to go.

But Stewart has urged the McLaren duo and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, who secured his first victory of the season at Silverstone, not to throw in the towel just yet.

“There’s never been a better season than we’re seeing right now in Formula One,” said Stewart, speaking to Goldstein and Cundy. “What an exciting race the British Grand Prix was at Silverstone. I don't think there was a better race this year. As a race it couldn't have been more competitive.

"Keep in mind that there’s 25 points for winning a Grand Prix right now with the new regulations. Sebastian Vettel has had no real mechanical problems or anything else.

"He had a slightly long pit-stop yesterday or he could have won the Grand Prix. But if he had three incidents that brought him into the pits or took him out of the race or an engine failure or something, that's 75 points.

"Now the fat lady hasn’t sung yet and the way that Ferrari and McLaren can put it together, I don't think the season is finished at all."
