Lewis Hamilton faces a tough task to make it nine wins at Silverstone on Sunday despite Mercedes bringing a ‘larger’ upgrade package to the British Grand Prix.

Hamilton is currently tied with legendary German driver Michael Schumacer for the most wins at a single Grand Prix with eight wins at both Silverstone and the Hungaroring.

Hamilton will be hoping that he can make it nine wins at his home Grand Prix this Sunday.

However, he will be up against fierce rival Max Verstappen who has won seven of the nine races so far this season and sits well clear at the top of the Driver Championship.

Team principal Totto Wolff confirmed Mercedes’ upgrades for the race at Silverstone after the recent Canadian Grand Prix and will hope it can halt Verstappen's march to the title.

Wolff said: "We are bringing a larger (set of upgrades) to Silverstone. And then we should have another one before the shutdown.

"The learnings (of the car) have accelerated a lot since we changed some of the conceptual architecture.â€

And asked what race his team could win this season, Wolff responded: “Silverstone.†

British Grand Prix: Date and UK start time

The race weekend at Silverstone will take place from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 9.

There was three practice sessions before qualifying and the race. The first of these practice sessions started at 12:30pm on the Friday and lasted one hour.

Practice two lasted one hour and started at 4pm. Practise three then took place from 11:30am on Saturday.

Qualifying for the race got going from 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

And lights out for the British Grand Prix will be at 3pm on Sunday.

British Grand Prix: TV channel and live stream

Coverage for the race will be on Sky F1 throughout the weekend, with build up to the race on Sunday starting at 2 pm UK time.

British Grand Prix: What has been said?

Hamilton has backed Verstappen to break his record of 103 wins.

“He has got a very long career ahead of him so absolutely,†he said.

“Records are there to be broken and he has got an amazing team.â€

Hamilton has also spoken about his desire to compete against Verstappen at the front of the race during the British Grand Prix.

“And I’m hoping by then [Silverstone] we will hopefully have taken another step.

"So, I’m really hopeful that… maybe that will be a race where we get to actually race them but we’ll see.â€
