Exclusive – Stewart tips di Resta for the top

Sir Jackie Stewart has told talkSPORT Paul di Resta has the skill to rise to the top of the sport.

The Briton came home in seventh at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday in difficult conditions, to earn his first points since the second race of the season.

And Stewart thinks his fellow Scot has shown enough in his debut F1 campaign to suggest he will one day be fighting for the world championship.

“It was a great result for him,” said Stewart, speaking to Keys & Gray. “The conditions helped him because he’s a jolly good driver. When you’re a better driver than some, in wet and difficult conditions that shows up, so he was able to take advantage of that and perhaps be a little higher in the finishing order than he might have been had it been a dry race.

"That shows you he has got the little bit of extra skill becasue when it comes to rain and slippery conditions that’s when real talent is able to be taken advantage of and you see the result accordingly. Paul di Resta has got a happy future ahead of him."
